I don't take as many photographs as I used to, but I love Photoshop.  What I tend to do is see something that makes me smile, and quickly illustrate it, often getting into trouble, but I never set out to do so.

This one got me into trouble, but I didn't realize it was a young lad.  Heck I never imagined that youngsters did rodeo

Often these illustrations come up on the forums.  I made a comment about being forgetful, and because the Mac/PC ribbing was alive and well in this forum, I made the comment that my head was leakier than an old mac, and suddenly I had to illustrat the non intended pun

This one was after they asked me to do a PowerPoint reminder for the camera club meeting. We have a Field trip planed for this coming Sunday on the very flat Wairau Lagoons, and with cyclones being a big news story, I kind of had to do a tsunami tease.  The running lad is gear loving Ricky, who I have inset for reference

Wow

First use of the tripod I picked up a few months back. Being out of commision I haven't done a lot of things I'd like to be doing.

Obviously I'm no photographer and my Canon SX50HS isn't a 'real' camera. Here goes nothing!

Not perfectly focussed, but this is at 50x zoom (Optical) with the built in lens. Only filtering was that provided by clouds!

These were taken with the SX50HS while relaxing in January.

I had a telescope ready to go on the eclipse, but it clouded over just as it was starting.

I am not a twitcher

I really am not a twitcher, the weather today in Chch was dull/drizzly.
I went to pick up my new Epson 3880 printer, took the Tamron 150-600 with me and stopped on the way home.  Tide was out and as I didn't have my wellington boots, camouflage anorak, or the time and patience to get close to the local flock of royal spoonbills, this was about as close as I could get in my city shoes without getting knee deep in mud or saturated from drizzle.
This is about a DX sized crop of an FX frame - so about 900mm FOV hand-held (1/500 @ f11).  Silly me didn't dial in any exposure compensation (shot at ISO 400, but bumped up perhapsas much as two stops in PP - so ISO 1600 is closer to the real ISO setting - which loses some detail in feathers etc. There's also some CA - but not too bad result under the circumstances (photog. incompetence in inclement conditions).
When SWMBO arrived home, sees large new printer on desk and this photo on the screen, mutters something along the lines of "I  #@*&ing hope you're not going to print that ugly looking thing to hang on the wall".  No I'm not.  But if anybody is interested in the Tamron 150-600 for "twitching" and how the lens might work (in less than ideal conditions) on a dx camera, a slightly downsized cropped original is here.

should be pretty ok at f/8 i thought, but i guess if you want more depth of field then one stop needs to be sacrificed

Yup - could have been f8, also I think the stabilisation is good enough to do 1/250th at 600mm - perhaps even slower.  So two "wasted stops" in that shot.  Sharpness of the lens is "ok" at 600mm, but certainly not stellar (and that's after nailing AF fine tune).  It's a very big ask to expect pin-sharp 36mp images at 600mm hand-held from a relatively cheap 35mm format lens.  "Serious" bird photography could be a real money pit - unless you visit zoos.
