That's very impressive - some commercial services might not do so well!

+1.  I'd be surprised if anyone could to do better without a very significant amount of work!

Yes, I would doubt warehouse stationary could do better. I wonder if they sub contract out that sort of work anyway (maybe overseas?), because it is quite time consuming and specialist stuff to get looking good.  I presume it will be quite pricey.

Thanks for all the warm fuzzies people. Floydbloke was happy with the outcome, which is great.

I have done some digital retouch stuff in the past and I'm thinking of doing it 'semi-pro' again, so I would be interested in knowing what someone like Warehouse stationery charge as well... or if there would be much demand for removing the Mother in law from the family portrait

A bit left field, but you might want to give Fiverr a go as well.  Yes, I know, you will have to pay but you can only rely on the goodwill of others for so long. Restoring and colourising a photo takes time and skill and those that that have these skills should be fairly remunerated. I appreciate that many will do this out of the goodness of their hearts, but you do end up getting what your pay for.

Today is our wedding anniversary and I presented 'er indoors with a framed print of the restored photo.

Many points scored. smile
