that Ken Block one is fab. very lush dust cloud mist, perfect shutter speed.

it would be more amazing to see a trail of cloud mist fading into oblivion - that requires probably 5-6 rallies to figure out the best spot.

and imagine if you can also pan it such that the background is a blur? probably impossible if the shutter speed is too high. now, that could take 15-16 rallies! if it's even physically possible...?

sorry the imagination is going wild

First time posting something in this thread.

Only just getting into photography, got the camera about a year ago today actually.

Been taking the odd shot now and then, but been taking more lately though. Took the below shots this morning. (Except the sat station, that was a couple weeks ago)
I'm not liking the difference between the .nef raw file and the compressed jpeg, feel like its a different picture, maybe i'm not exporting correctly?

the most simple way to do raw is
1) adjust exposure
2) adjust white balance
export.

if you don't adjust these it will look like ... ermm ... RAW. you know, the raw chicken you buy from the supermarket? raw data. uncooked. the jpeg -> cooked dish. not sophisticated, but something from the takeaways. expert processing = fine dining. finished and presented to the T.
suggest do some online studying. took me a few years to perfect the conversion. now learning the other bits that follow. other forms of processing, fixing for printing, fancy stuff like "photoshop" ;p

the WB is a little on the blue side for my liking. if you don't agree just look at the colour of the snow. ;p beauty in the eye of the beholder i guess. ;p nice colours otherwise

Possibly over-saturated rather than too cool in WB. Atmospherics affect colour - this from my deck this morning, but 600mm / FX, where it'sd going to look blue whatever you do.

It was quite hazy,the bush in the middle has a blueish tinge to it, and all the snow is in shadow as which doesn't help.

What near snow?
Shooting in full daylight, snow in shadows looks blue. So does the shadow on the presumably neutral grey shaded side of the galv iron shed. Use that as a reference for "neutral" grey when adjusting and see what happens to all the colours on the rest of the image. Not surprising - the sky is blue (and what's in the shade isn't being illuminated by the "white" sun).
The image is perhaps a little cool in white balance - but not as much as first impression may be.
