It doesn't worry me personally as I'm not a member of linked in. I used to use MSN messenger before Microsoft purchased skype and closed the former down. Never used skype.

Im pretty sure Alcatel Lucent purchased Nokia, or there was a Merger. It wasnt MS. MS did partner with Nokia.

Microsoft bought Nokia mobile business and the rights to use the Nokia brand on mobiles and smartphones. This is ending soon. Alcatel Lucent bought Nokia's network business. Different things.

I don't recall that happening to Skype at all, what happened is mobile took off, and mobile messaging apps in particular using over the top services, and Skype missed that trend.

BTW LinkedIn using an opensource stack is going to run great on Azure cloud

Skype had an iPhone app and an Android app early on. One of the first. But that was about the time MS bought them. You say they then missed the move to mobile? They were already there, IIRC (as an early Android adopter and owner of an iPod in 2007 that I installed Skype on it and used with a mobile iPhone headset so I could have the speaker)

the app was absolutely terrible on mobile, that's why people moved away.  Missed notifications, battery life, performance, startup time etc
