I expect they will fix it soon like they did with the calendar spam that plagued google a while back. I still have the odd one in there that they put way in the future pop up but its not the 20-30 a day like at its worst.

It's not just you, there is a discussion on reddit sysadmin about the same issue.

Yeh me too. It started about a month or two ago. I keep marking it as spam, but still keep getting loads of it..

Lightbulb:

Just recently, I've started to be bombarded by Gmail spam.  Really crude stuff - around 100 a day.

** is that 100 per day getting past the email filter?

basically, that email adress is trashed. Its being targeted by spammers

Make a new gmail a/c with a new adress .
Then , dont give out that new adress to any websites or services , use your old gmail a/c for that

I dont have that level of unfiltered spam with my gmail adress  .

I have started to become quite particular about how I manage my email in order to prevent this problem. I basically have three ways of receiving mail:

  • High priority address which generates notifications. Strictly for people who I know personally and trust, and for companies that have a legitimate need to send me invoices. Very limited spam comes into this address, and any spam received results in me blocking the sender.
  • Low priority address which drops everything into a quarantine folder. Used for businesses who I suspect might potentially spam me, or leak my address to spammers.
  • Hide my email - this is a randomised address which forwards to my high priority address but can be killed at any time. I use this mainly for events, allowing me to receive important updates leading up to an event and kill the address as soon as the event is over to prevent spam.

This system requires a bit of discipline but it generally works really well.

One of the things I do is give out an alias if I have any doubts about the company I'm dealing with, or where I suspect I could get marketing emails

username+barkers@gmail.com
username+ebay@gmail.com

They all still end up in the same mailbox, but the to address has that if the alias so you can very easily filter incoming emails and also see exactly who's selling your details. No prior setup required and no limits on the number you can have. Just make them up on the spot when filling out your email address.

Do do also have another old Gmail account for extra spammy sender's like, all my geekzone thread updates etc :)

Spammers are not stupid, they strip anything after the + when they are going thru the lists they buy.

everettpsycho: Has anyone else started getting spam via Google drive? That has no spam filter at all and I've started getting bombarded with file sharing requests that are all classic spam subject lines.

I'll give them credit they found away the spam filter doing this but it's bloomin annoying getting those notifications.

Yeah, the only solution to that is turn Google Drive notifications off altogether somewhere in Google Drive settings.
