It's a operating system that can run on lower-end hardware / sub $100 laptops. It is indeed based around a web browser but that's what most people use their computers for right?

Also, it will make for a awesome operating system to boot into if you want to do the basics. Your laptop could have ChromeOS installed and also the likes of Windows 7. You could boot into ChromeOS to save battery since it won't have to fire up things such as the hard drive.

There is quite a bit of possibilities for a Operating System like this.

I would have thought that Google would have gone with Android OS rather than Chrome OS..

It's really a browser OS which si why they call if Chrome OS i guess.

Android OS would be for a fully featured OS.... knowing Google they may develop one to compete with Windows in the future???

Haha, even the fastest computers take 45 seconds to boot. My new Arch box boots from power button depression to login prompt (including 5 seconds for grub menu) a whopping 19.2 seconds.

I can see this taking off for the netbook market but not much more than that. It will be like the iPad of operating systems; pretty cool but also pretty useless.

actually, how much data traffic that OS would consume, say to create and work on word document, edit few pictures?.. so to be able to do all these things I need to be connected to the net. IF i'm not - it's totally useless :(

Hmm, was talking with friends last night. An interesting application could be using the OS in an internet cafe setting.

Assuming there is a way to reliably erase all trace of the previous user between boots/uses it could be great to provide a reliable speedy internet browsing experience to your customers.

It's a brilliant idea and I'm sorry to all those who say because its internet focussed it will never work there has been a massive trend to both content and applications being delivered via the internet so if anything the usefulness of this OS will only grow.

Laptops are now designed to come out of standby, ready (usable) immediately and (web connected) in 0.5-2 seconds.
