One thing I have discivered today that while Cloudready can boot into a live environment fom USB it is not an ideal way to get the feel of Chrome OS. It is laggy and misses some of the key attributes especially the Google Play Store.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I'd previously replied to your question as to how I was finding the Asus C302 Chromebook I bought a few months back; since then, I'd say I'm considerably less enamored with the device than I was then! Two main issues:

1. Excel suddenly stopped working on the device, and couldn't be re-installed (Play store stated incompatible). This wasn't fixed for a couple of months at least (last week, finally), and it was difficult to get an answer as to what was causing the problem (many other owners of the same laptop had exactly the same issue). This would have been a disaster for me if I'd not had a main Windows laptop, and is a good experience in that, at this point in time, I'd not put all my computing eggs in the ChromeOS basket.

2. More significantly, the #$#@ device simply freezes for no apparent reason and requires a reboot. I've done a powerwash a couple of times (partly also to try to sort the Excel issue), and no luck. I've now disabled nearly every single Crome plugin and uninstalled nearly every Google Play app, so the device isn't that useful! Freezes are now less common but still do occur - and this could well be simply a reflection that I now hardly use it. Unsure what else I can try bar sending it back to PB Tech (so would appreciate advice on this!).

I forgot to add that the range of 1080-spec'd Chromebooks (well, higher-spec'd full-stop) in this country is really narrow - https://classic.pricespy.co.nz/category.php?l=s326075408 .

I'm needing to buy my son a Chromebook for intermediate next year, and he's keen on a 'flip' device; the problem is none of the more affordable models have anything more than a 768 screen. I imagine he'd sacrifice the resolution for the flip functionality!

It is my only laptop (apart from my work laptop) - my other computer is my desktop. I also quite often even use it for work since it is so much nicer carrying the Chromebook around instead of my work laptop (which is a Lenovo "Microsoft Surface" clone running Linux). I use my Chromebook more than my PC so you could say it is actually my main device.

I'm writing this message on it for example. This is why I opted for the Samsung Chromebook Pro as I really really like Chromebooks. They're fast, stable and "just work".

Before that, I had a Toshiba Chromebook 2 I actually bought from a Geekzone seller. It lasted very well and still works today (ended up giving it to somebody to try ChromeOS when I upgraded and it now has Android apps).

I wonder it you have an issue with the Wifi chip. I would be talking to PB Tech before time drifts on too far

I am thinking if I cannot resolve the issue I am having Google Photos detailed here ChromeOS may be a non starter

It depends on what you want.

The Acer spin is really nice

Things to consider though, do not get 18gb, get to 32gb versions.

And if updates are important to you, check when the Chromebook was released, they have 6-7 years of support so some models on the market sch as r11 Acer won't have a long time of support left.
