But it’s installing and then the screen goes black (like restarting).
Doesn’t tell me when to remove it.
I’ve tried to remove it early and also tried to leave it in.
What surprises me is that it’s not clearer (it doesn’t tell me) when I should remove the USB.

Okay so I have installed a few these and have had the same issue.

Cloudready appears to not support some storage devices. If your device is not supported you get the error you are experiencing.

I have found some Intel SSDs will install, reboot but cant be booted off. I have gone through gparted and many different solutions to no avail. I have even logged a ticket with the Cloudready community forum. I have found swapping these out with Samsung SSDs works perfectly first time every time.

Hope this helps

Thanks. I appreciate this.
In regards to Samsung SSD’S, I’ll have a look.
Anything you would recommend.
It’s an old laptop and I don’t want to spend too much money.
I’ve seen some SSD’S for under $40, but got no idea what to choose (what’s compatible).
I’m very much a rookie, but keen on giving it a go.

These ones I purchased work:

1 AA90605 ADATA XPG SX6000 Pro - solid state drive - 256GB - PCI Express 3.0 x4(NVMe) (p/n: ASX6000PNP-256GT-C) $ 68.39 $ 68.39
1 AB07873 Samsung 980 MZ-V8V250 - solid state drive - 250GB - PCI Express 3.0 x4(NVMe) (p/n: MZ-V8V250)

Sorry pasted from invoice.

If you're after an SATA drive, sorry you will have to do your research or just buy and pray.
Or pick a compatible model, find out what drive it uses and grab that.

And just like that!
I bought a 2nd hand SSD (16GB) for 10 bucks.
It’s now working! Managed to install and remove the USB key.
Now running Chrome OS.
Thanks for all the inputs/assistance.

That's awesome congrats
Now just wait for the Android Apps/Google play store upgrade and it'll be the best Non chromebook ever.

Now that Google owns Cloudready, I'm secretly expecting this Q1 next year

I know.
Was a tad disappointed that there’s no Google Playstore on it (yet).
The kids wants to play Roblox.

I Neverknew what Neverware was.

This looks like the future for all those Win10 machines that wont make the cut with Win11.

What were you trying to install it on before? The 500 GB HGST/WD Blue HDD that came with it?
