A little tip: The image you are using on your front page: You are not allowed to use it the way you are using it now.

Look at the license for the picture http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0/ - Ref: the photographers Flickr page - You should make sure you are following the licenses and not using other peoples copyrighted material if you want to be a serious web marketeer, if you ask me.

This has nothing to do with Kiwis as such. Building trust is very important if you want to have a successful business. And you can build trust even if you are not TradeMe.

I have no issues with doing business with a faceless entity. Paypal and creditcards have perfect fraud protection. I personally don't understand why Kiwi's have such trust issues on the internet. I sincerely don't.

Its tempting to send you off with a few links to sites that pretend they sell brand products for cheap and let you try out your theory in practise.

That's what I mean, there's a true lack of trust. And I think I am close to the truth as I say that kiwi's are quite risk-averse when it comes to E-Commerce.

Of course there's dodgy sites out there. But it's just a matter of using common sense. You don't walk through LA"s Skid Row at night either aye.

This is a bit uptight in my honest opinion. A contact form should be enough.

Many contact forms actually don't work, or can stop working, so an alternative form of communication is a must. I have been to many websites, filled in the contact form, and either the form threw up a server error, or I never hear back from the person, and they then say they never got the form. So an email address and either postal address or physical address is really needed for NZ businesses to have faith in the company. Almost all businesses will have that info, or you can get it from the domains Whois. That is one reason why NZ domains must have the domain owners full contact details on it. The OP looks to be using a .com, where thy haven't got their contact details displayed on it.

Which is why - as a business one wants to make sure to give out information so people can build trust with you. Being anonymous does not build trust.

But it's just a matter of using common sense.

So how would you use common sense to find out if a site is a scam or not?

By assuming that it was in Bangladesh or Nigeria unless the contact details said otherwise.
I would then check the contact details.

In NZ yes, but in many other countries they choose to protect the domain holders privacy (if they ask for it). Maybe because there are a lot of shady customers out there as well?

What makes you think that the NZ rules around domain names should apply globally?

No Contact details on the website: I would expect to see an address and contact number as the very minimum. If I were to sign up for something like web marketing, I would not like to do it via an online form. I would expect to speak to a human.

No Company Information: A simple "About Us" page should describe your business, company registration number, its owners and how long you have been operating etc ...

Good luck with that. How would you hurt a company you have no way of finding because all you have is their website and their domain that is protected?

Its up to you if you want to use your own name and picture on this forum or not. I have chosen to post with my own name when I post on the net, because I am willing to stand behind what I say. Its not hard to find out about me and to actually confirm that I am who I say I am.

Its not mandatory to post with your own name on this forum, and everyone is free to choose what they want. Not having a picture is one thing, having a pseudonym and not having posted here a lot is another. You showing up here at about the same time as "myusername"/ totalsellingsuccess and not having posted here before does make me wonder though..

However, there is a BIG difference between posting on forums anonymously and running a business and trying to stay anonymous.

It would seem that the OP has a bit of work to get their own camp in order before trying to dish out advice to small business owners on successful web marketing :)

Aside from all the other problems described in this thread, the site is a bit slow, over 11s to load here (and I'm on a very fast network). Not a good start.
