Thanks, we're aware of that.  We're in the process of shutting things down permanently.

You mean the whole thing?

Sadly yes :(

There has been plenty of feedback from Kiwis about what our service offering lacks but no one was willing to take a leap of faith and actually give us a try.

Even with a free 30 days for all new customers, the only ones that took up the offer were overseas hackers - over and over again.

It's a bit disheartening to say the least.

Shame I either didn't know about it or forgot about it.  The $20 package would make a great mail server for the price, which I was looking for for a long time.  Gave up in the end and went with mailbox.org.

Sorry to hear you couldn't get your project off the ground. It's a hard market with low margins. Competing on price is pretty hard.

Thanks.

As you said, hats off to the fellow web hosts in NZ, it sure ain't an easy market, particularly with the big multinationals offering unbeatable rates. It's a game of endurance.

Sorry to hear that, but it true that some big VPS providers do offer cheaper and better pricing options, e.g., Vultr and Digital Ocean. Vultr provide AUS servers which I think is not big difference comparing with NZ local hosts. So I think it is quite a hard for local NZ web hoster to become competitive.

Self promotion is against the forum usage guidelines.

I thought that was the whole point of this forum - for startups to promote themselves. Is that not how it's supposed to be?

"Show off your startup, ask for feedback, distribute invites"...

Another advantage of local hosting is that users have potentially a more reliable speed and access at lower cost for bandwidth, especially if already using BGP routing or connected to a provider that peers at APE etc. Been thinking there must be a way to get back into the internet industry for me too, have just about done my share of data cabling installs now.

Time to find a new industry!
