BlueShift: Put the remote on a high shelf? Take it to work with you? Educate the child with carrots & sticks (didn't work for my kids, might for yours...)?
It may come to hiding it if we get one. I don't think the carrot thing will work.
The stick thing works very well, my mum did it on us in South Africa and we did it with our kids. No degrading smack, no bruising, just a corrective action by inflicting short term discomfort. So now if I tell my kids don't drink drive, they don't because they have learnt there are consequences to bad behaviour. And they respect authorities. And they are top scholars.
There are heat pumps with lock functions, but usually to prevent accidental presses and not pin protected. Best bet (until your kids have learnt) is to hide it.
PS: To stop toddlers from chewing on remotes, paint it with Stop That which is a clear nail polish intended to prevent nail biting and thumb sucking. Available from pharmacies.
Wrap the remote in razor-wire... It'll stop everyone in the house fiddling with it unless they really have to, so may save you $$ on your power bill as well.
