I'm having my bathroom redone, including switching to mains pressure hot water. I have an existing low pressure cylinder that works perfectly, and looks as good as new. Rheem 180lt, triple inlet. Model 14T.180.13.

Is it worth anything? Or is it worth the hassle of putting on trademe as a $1 reserve just to avoid throwing something out that works fine?

I'm in Wellington, just in case anyone's looking for one.

It has a lot of copper in it, that alone is worth a heap these days

I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.

Take it too the scrap metal, i took my old one in and got $100 for the copper. Make sure you strip the outside metal(not to sure what it is made off) off first. This will expose the copper drum underneath, you will get you a better price without it.

Thanks guys. I'm not really bothered about $100 in scrap, I'd rather something that works fine is used rather than chucked away. I'm spending well into five figures for the bathroom, $100 wouldn't pay for one of the lights or one square meter of tiles.

If you're just going to dump it, try dumping it at a scrap dealers. At worst you won't have to pay to dispose of it at a landfill etc.

When I had mine replaced I contacted Wellington Scrap metals to get an indicative price, then just negotiated with the Plumber for him to have it for some minor discount on a component... saved me the hassle of getting it to the scrap metal dealer

Thanks guys, for now I'll have the bathroom firm throw it in my shed, and I'll either sell it on trademe or for scrap.

$1 reserve on TradeMe, pick-up only.

You might be surprised what you get for it, and it means someone pays you to take it away.
