Thanks to the storm last night we found out there's a bit of our roof that need to be nailed back (or whatever it is). Since the wind is coming from the opposite direction it's only flapping but it would be different if the wind was a northerly.

Does anyone have a good suggestion for a roof repair man/crew around Johnsonville who can do a quick job (and perhaps check the rest of the roof for a leak)?

I know they might be a bit busy today after the storm, but who knows?

The best thing to do is ring your insurance company. Even if you don't end up lodging a claim they can help as they have the contacts.

I will get a quote from someone local as excess is $400 anyway. If quote more than that then might call insurance.

Thanks. Find a couple of guys established in Johnsonville/Newlands on nocowbous.co.nz... Called Buildvista Ltd and the guy said "I'm 45 minutes away, see you soon". He then sent me a SMS about an hour late to say "My ladder is in another job, can we do it tomorrow?", so I replied with "Fine, no problem"... And obviously he didn't show up or contacted me to say anything.

Nocowboys alright...

If that's the case I'd understand if he could say in the first phone call "Sorry, we can't do anything now".

Instead he promised to be here in 45 minutes, then sent me a SMS saying he would be here next day... Then nothing.

One thing is not being available and telling the customer straight away. Another is keep playing it like a comedy of errors.

This is exactly what I've done. Roof is only 15 months old but I think the severity of the winds last Thursday will be a way for the roofing company to deny a warranty claim of faulty workmanship, even though an identical piece of roofing over another room was fine.

I'm waiting on an assessor now and I'll see where we go from there.

MF - I have a decent ladder and a bunch of tek screws so could pop over and secure the loose bit tomorrow if you like. Can't do it this arvo as I'm heading off to work shortly.

Hey MF,

I would recommend getting all the nails replaced with tek screws as nails tend to pop easily and are the number one cause of leaks. If you end up going through your insurance company see if the roofer will leave the surpluses screws as he would of charged your insurance company for a box (1000). A average house to replace the nails with screws you would be looking at a ballpark of $800-$900 including materials for a cashie depending on acess.

Dratsab came along yesterday and helped with some screw replacements. He had a look around the roof and commented a couple of rusty points. All in all it's getting old and that might just come under wear and tear so it will be a job soon after winter.

Haven't heard back from the guy I talked to on Friday, so left a review on nocowboys - the guy had a 96% rate, which really shows you can't rely on those "reviews".
