I bought some powerball classic for 31c each and some better ones at 35c each - apparently the better ones do more things like "rinse aid" "coffee stain removal" etc ...

But I don't notice any difference

Anyone notice any difference?

I haven't tried them, but I suspect that it's just marketing BS. Like all those silly claims with different toothpastes or different shaped toothbrushes.

yeah it's looking like that. bought heaps of the "better ones" argh lost a few bucks :D

I thought at least they'd smell different but still the stale smelly water odour when you open the DW in the morning

the classic cleans everything you throw at it anyway so I can't see how it can get better than that :D

My mum has done a bit of her own research..... ;-)

She claims the cheaper paralell imported brands you find at the red shed, asian grocery stores etc are inferior to those specifically made for the AU/NZ market. i.e. they are made for the asian markets and as such theres different standards.

It must be true... because my old lady said so !

She who must be obeyed around here swears by the Finish "Quantum powerballs" says the cheaper ones don't clean heavy dirt off nearly as well.

We just installed a new dishwasher.
The quantum power balls are noticeably better than the non quantum.
I am not saying the standard power balls are bad, just the quantum ones are better.

100% true. stay away from anything that's not "finish powerball" you might as well hand wash them before putting in the dishwasher

ok thanks :D maybe there is a percentage, so we will put the standard ones for standard load and slightly more expensive ones for slightly tougher loads. sorry I didn't buy quantum coz wasn't on special

those Quantum powerballs become like glue when they get wet and wont let the drawer thing pop open when it's meant to,. Was told not to put it in the draw and just chuck it in the machine which seems to defeat the whole purpose of having a draw that releases the ball when its needed.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

My experience too, however the biggest improvement to washing dishes (besides me doing them by hand) was reading the dishwasher manual and finding out that the cycles didn't get better in sequence!

I incorrectly assumed that cycle 4 must be better than three, but sadly 4 was an Eco wash which we've been using exclusively for almost a year. No wonder I needed Quantum!

everything becomes glue in the ^%$& hole. always chuck it in the utensil rack or anywhere :D

I just use powder. Also find the eco store powder good, and probably better for you. Didn't find the finish powerball tablets any better or worse. I think it is more about the quality of the diskwasher itself. F&P ones I found were were poor at washing and stuff was still wet afterwards, even after the dry cycle. Asko and Bosch are both superior at washing, and you don't need the expensive tablets.

Those aren't designed to be used in the powder drawers as they have a plastic wrap which dissolves during the rinse cycle this releasing the actual washing powder during the washing phase. If you put it in the drawer then when the opens the door roll release the powder, the plastic wrap needs to dissolve first

My door is broken so I just use the tablets but the standards power balls don't have the plastic wrap

We have switched to Active Platinum. My wife likes the convenience (which I question to some extent). At least in the process I have managed to convince my wife the tablets already contain rinse aid, so one less thing to buy. All the tablets including cheap (brand name) ones say it contains rinse aid.

I don't like the liquid rinse aid, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but the tablet version is not bad. Issue with the liquid is probably too much gets dispensed.
