My mother is building a new garage behind an existing one.
I would like to locate the underground power cable, before i dig
new trench to the new garage.

Can anyone suggest someone in Templeton Christchurch area?

Is there not a warning plaque on the footing of the garage somewhere indicating buried cable at power entry point to the garage?
There should be.
Should be one on the house too where the cable exits to the garage.
There was on my last house and garage and I thought it was a legal requirement.

Yes i know it's a legal requirement, but this house is about 50 years old
and there are no signs.
I think i know where the cable is, but want to be safe before i dig.

You could always just dig down with a trowel.

Have a look under the house first to work out where the cable exits.

Yes i know where it comes out from the house.
Vent holes in the foundation.
Funny thing is, there are 3 old cable going to the garage or somewhere
in that direction.

Is it absolutely necessary for the new garage to be powered up before the old one comes down?
Did you say you saw conduit under ground?

There are plenty of folk in Chrischurch who provide Location Services. ... most are busy finding stuff in Red and TC3 areas using both simple locators and Radar.
Most drainage companies and digger operators carry cable locators that are good for live cables (can also be used on retired/dead cables if you can get at one end)

Hirepool or hirequip i think have AC mains cable locators - they look like a cross between a wartime metal detector and a water Y stick.

Chorus people walk down the road and mark out the AC cables before they go digging using them.

I have just done a google search for you. Hirepool do have them - so i would just go see your local branch. They find cables and pipes.

Because hirepool have recently changed their website, the google search result isnt working.
