There are heaps of cheapies like these on DX etc - http://dx.com/p/ziyu-zy-0814-005-5w-400lm-3000k-5-lsi-chips-warm-white-light-spotlight-lamp-white-85-265v-261668

So anyway, is there a standard track that they all fit into or is is totally specific to the manufacturer of the lamps.

If its a standard one, is it available locally at a reasonable price?

Are you suggesting that there are some local retailers or wholesalers don't sell track lighting at a reasonable price? Unfortionately building product pricing in NZ is very expensive, and I have found that lighting importers require that you buy through a retailer or wholesaler, or an electrician, so you are paying one or two middlemen along the way.
But you may want to try halcyon lighting, as I have found them good to deal with, and they do have lighting track that has a wide range of spot types.

Ok, they do list some on their site so its a start.

Anything aluminium in NZ is insanely priced. I dont expect this to be any different.

Most building related products are insanely overpriced here. How much do you expect to pay for track. Looking at my previous quote for track lighting using the T410 S was approximately  $65 per metre retail.

Home depot has 8 foot lengths for US$21.97, so that makes locally only about 6x overpriced which is not as bad as some plumbing and wiring items are, but not really that nice when I would probably be wanting to put in about 40-60m of the stuff when I open up the lounge into the dining room.

Although you do also have to look at quality and that price did include tax. Some of the cheap stuff may be really thin aluminum and the copper contacts may be really thin. Do bunnings sell it, or have you tried some of the cheaper lighting shops like lighting plus and direct, which tend to have some cheaper priced lighting stuff. $65 is probably a lot cheaper than what an electrician would charge you to buy it. You also may get a quantity discount, if they do that.

That sounds like a heck of a lot of track.
