I have a Candy Alise front loader washer/dryer like the one pictured below however it usually takes 2 full drying cycles (100min each) to get even a modest load of washing dry and sometimes even then it just kind of seems to steam them rather than dry.

I noticed that if you remove the filter plug at the bottom left of the unit, even during the drying cycle water continues to flow through the unit unless the tap is turned off at the wall.

Just wondering if this is normal behavior for this sort of washer (for water to run through it during a dry cycle)?

And if there is a fault with my unit or they are just cr@p at drying?

Does it vent outside? Or is it a condenser model where you have to empty a tank - or have it plumbed in?

Can't think why water would run through it during the dryer cycle, unless it uses tap water as coolant for the condenser? Unlikely, AFAIK it usually uses ambient air but maybe it does use some cold water and your valve is dirty/leaking. You will be surprised how much silt comes through even good city water supplies.

It is an Italian company which is currently not a good thing, however Candy owns a lot of big brands and is a huge international multi-brand company so should be stable and easy to find a service agent. Interesting read:

I find it actually helps a lot if open it halfway through the dry cycle to let the steam out then resume it

It's the landlord's; besides want to determine whether it's an actual fault or these are just cr@p machines before I escalate the support ticket with the owners.

I have a front loading dryer (LG) that is supposed to work as a dryer as well and is exactly the same as what you describe - crap at drying. Google the problem and you'll see it's a complaint everyone on the planet who has this type of machine has made. On top of this, trying to use the drying function more than twice a month will double your electricity bill.
