Hi all

I am setting up my home office and I want a wall mounted desk, I have the timber (650 wide by 2200 long), I am just having a hard time finding the brackets to support it. My google powers seem to be lacking in this area but i want something like the below

Anyone know where to source something like this? preferably in NZ even more preferably in Auckland?

Those are big shelf brackets I think - bunnings has shelf brackets.

Otherwise do you know someone with a welder?

Been through both bunnings and mitre 10 they both only had shelf brackets, nothing that would support a desk

They have ones that would support the weight of attaching a car to a wall, but they're ugly silver things. Look in the hardware section. Though if you want pretty ones you may have to find a specialist place.

Go and see a local engineering firm with the measurements. I am sure they will be able to whip you up something in no time, and probably for less that and hardware store.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Timmay is correct, Bunnings has heavy duty galvanised brackets like in the first picture. I thinks it is in the fasteners section where other galvanised brackets are like ones you concrete in for pergola posts.

The second photo will never work for the load, it has no strength and will just collapse. There needs to be a diagonal.

If you want something smart, try Anzor Stainless Steel (there is one near me in East Tamaki, and over the country). They do lots of stuff for boats etc. in addition to stainless steel fasteners. I'm pretty sure they have construction pieces too, and they do sell to the public.

Mitre 10 Mega near us have strong brackets with a diagonal support.

Agreed with Niel that your second photo will NOT do the job - the diagonal support is essential.

You could achieve the same with timber. Screw or bolt an upright to the wall. On top of that have your horizontal piece which extends 3/4ths of the way to the front of the desk. Underneath the front end of the horizontal, run a bit diagonally backward down to the floor/wall join. If you suck at cutting angles in timber, you can use hinges as brackets on the inside angles of the triangle. It is important that the horizontal piece sits on top of the other two pieces. Use square head screws rather than nails.

Defiantly saw suitable ones at bunnings today. Took photos but can't upload as they are too big for geekzone. Will do that when home.
