So I've finally (nearly) finished building my TV cabinet.

Does anyone know where I can buy some hinges for the glass doors?

The only ones I have found are the swivel/pivot which involves drilling.

I want the ones that just screw into the wood and hold the piece of glass.

The only place I've found them is ebay, but would much rather buy local, if anyone knows somewhere?

Thanks

You could try reusing hinges from an old TV cabinet. Should be heaps of cheap ones in second hand stores.

Thanks for the replies.

$81 for a hinge! My TV cabinet has only cost $70 so far lol.

Good thinking re the second hand shop. It also got me wondering when the inorganic collection is, as there are plenty on the side of the road.

see what hafelle (sp?) have, bunnings and mitre10 can get stuff in from them easy enough. Well bunnings did for me in the past.

I had the same issue when I built my cabinet a few years back.

If you talk to these guys:

http://www.glasstools.co.nz/

They are the NZ agents for CR Laurence, which if you look at their site here:

http://crlaurence.com/crlapps/showline/default.aspx?GroupID=23324

you should be able to find what you need....

I was also going to suggest this. I think I have an old cabinet in the garage - I'll have a look when I get home what kind of hinge is on it.

MadEngineer: https://www.sopersmac.co.nz/products/Offset_Shower_Door_Hinge-p6781.php
That's expensive because it's a shower door hinge. This could be an option http://www.opushardware.co.nz/glass-hardware/1/shower-hinges/92/fch-1/ but Hafele also have a few in their manual.

Thanks again for the replies, I'm really grateful.

I reluctantly bought the hafele pivot ones from bunnings a few days ago, but I'll have to take them back.

Thanks sidefx.

I'll take a look at those websites and find out how much they charge for their hinges.

Have you looked on aliexpress? I needed some hollow wall anchors and gotwhat I needed off there at a great price.

The other good priced place locally is handy warehouse in wairau valley. I recall seeing some hinges there when I was last on a screw and bolt buying trip.

Just a quick post to say that I've built my cabinet. Thanks for the Aliexpress recommendation, I got my hinges from there.

If anyone is interested, Here are a few pics:

Before

After

I left the back partially open for ventilation, well actually it's the only piece of wood I had lol

With doors & hinges (glass taken from the coffee table it was originally on)

Its not anything amazing, and pretty rough around the edges, but isnt too bad to look at from a distance when it's dark lol. I'm fairly happy with it tho as it only cost a packet of screws, paint, and wood filler, and is my second diy project.

ubergeeknz: Nice job!

Thanks for that.

It took a lot more time to do than it should have, and those wooden inserts on the sides drove me insane.

All I can say is thank god (or whoever invented it) for wood filler. Makes a poor job look reasonable lol.

The only downside is that it makes my tv look smaller, time for a 60" maybe . . . . .
