Hi all,

I need M8 to M6 thread adapters to mount a Vesa adapter plate on my Samsung TV. I know I can probably just drill the holes out on the adapter plate, but I don't have the equipment required. I can have them shipped from the Netherlands, but would prefer to source them locally:

Have I got this correct?
The TV has threaded holes to take M8 bolts, but your adapter plate only has M6 holes.

I would take it to your local friendly mechanic, auto electrician, engineer etc and ask them to drill the holes out to 8mm.
Should only take a minute in the drill press.

If you're in Wellington, the guys at Coastal Fasteners should be able to source this for you. I'd be surprised if they had any in stock, but they're really helpful about getting stuff they don't already have.

Just a quick query, but as the mounting plate has M6 holes, and the TV has M8 holes, have you confirmed that the plate is designed for the intended load?

Thanks for your message. The adapter plate will be used to mount a Tranquil Abel HTPC on the back of the TV, so no concerns about load.

You should be able to find a fastener with a M8 thread on the outside and a M6 thread on the inside at any respectable specialist fasteners business.

Where are you? What materials are we talking about?

I could do that in my home workshop and for a gz'er I'd do it for beer money. I bet you could get a similar offer in most parts the country.

you need to use some "helicoils" they are used to repair stripped threads... say you had a 6mm thread that was stripped, you would drill and tap it out to 8mm and then screw in the helicoil insert to bring it back down to 6mm..

but in your case just buy the helicoils and screw them in...job done.

Don't know if you can helicoil a M8 hole down to M6?
My standard repair coils require just a 6.25mm hole tapped for the M6 thread insert.

Take a dozen beer to the local engineer of your choice, i'm sure they'll sort you out. it'll probably end up cheaper too.

As a bonus, you may gain useful contacts.
