Was going to pick a new one up at the noels sale but they were all just branded junk like Sheffeld or Russell Hobbs that looked the same as kmart and warehouse stuff.

All did that stupid thing where they cut it in half which means not much filling.

So anyone seen a decent one that has a large single compartment for the bread with no slice? My old one that has issues is a sunbeam but that seems to just be a brand stuck on generic junk now.

We purchased a Breville one many many moons ago. It is one of those cafe style flat sandwich presses and it works brilliantly and is still going strong. Not sure if they are still on the market though.

I'm wanting the kind that seal it since that's the only way to cook an end and baked beans one and similar liquidy fillings. Just not chopped in half with a capacity of about 2 teaspoons like the $18 one I bought.

The big problem with newer onesI have found is the coating comes off far too easily. I have an old one from the 70's and it has a great coating on it. But a newer one I got, the coating came off onto the bread, leaving shiney aluminum underneath. I am not aware of any that don't cut them in half. An old one I used to have didn't, think it was sunbeam, I believe they stopped making those as they didn't fully cook the contents in the middle.

This one however does deeper fillings Sunbeam GR6250 Big Fill 2Slice Sandwich Maker.

Ditto. We had a really old (flat) one, that would toast four sammies at once, which gave up the ghost a year or so ago. Replaced it with a two-sam, flat Breville from Farmers - it's great. They had many models/options in the flat variety.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

How about one of those old-fashioned fold-in-half lengthwise, cast aluminium or cast-iron jobbies - that you put on a stove element - (preferably gas). They used to seal edges but not across the centre. Not sure if you can still get them.

Might give that a go if nothing else comes up. Not sure why you would want to make them smaller like that myself.

Have recently got one of these also and can recommend (I prefer the cut in half sealed type :P) holds a decent amount of filling, also very easy to clean!

Looks like a winner. The cut lines are only decorative so it takes heaps. Will have to see if I can get noels to match the $44 at harveys tomorrow.
