Does anyone have any tips (short of taking apart the device in question and ripping out the LED!)? Tape would work but it's for a bright white cradle and I fear tape will look a bit rangi.

Has anyone tried these? Does the light get fully blocked or will it be faded out?

I usually go with blutack. Easy to remove. Nail polish is a good idea I will try that sometime difficult to reverse if it goes wrong and I will guess the solvent tends to plastic damage.

I've usually found once you deal with the LEDs direct light with paint or whatever that you start to see it shining thru the case all over the device.

I use window tint film from the local car-tint place. Go with 80 - 90% block out. Just have a rummage around their scrap bin.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Blutak nails the light completely and I use it regularly.

Alternatively you can colour in some clear cellotape with a black vivid and stick this over the light to significantly dull it. Sometimes more than one layer is required.

The Windows Tint film (or perhaps some 'frosted glass film' is an excellent idea as well.

I'm a blu-tack fan - totally opaque, use as much or as little as you need and as @gzt said, easy to remove. And it comes in different colours - I've had some white stuff before that wouldn't stand out too much on the white cradle.

Or put the cradle somewhere it won't annoy you, e.g. not on the bedside table at night.

Lightdims is the first thing Google threw up, or Dimmys. They are not an expensive option to test. I have seen tinted covers that look like a tiny condom for LED lights before but can't remember what they are called. Googling LED condom at work may not be the best course of action. If you can get the whole bulb out, you can put one over it and reduce the light output or change the color.

I use Lightdims. They are the perfect solution. Light is dimmed not blocked. They come in various shapes and sizes plus a custom sheet you can cut to suit.
www.rappalloav.co.nz have them.

Ive used a dab of translucent hotmelt glue on things to diffuse cheap things where they stick a focused LED thru a hole in the case (ultra cheap) that shone a spotlight onto the wall.

And black hotmelt glue to totally stop it. As its just hotmelt it peels right off when needed.
