A little more info would be useful

one major thing are you looking to rent or do you own a rental property you want managed?

The views expressed by me are not necessarily those of my employer

Oh ok then. Personally as a tenant i have always hated dealing with property managers. They always have a chip on their shoulder and have that attitude they are above you. And as a part owner we never used a property manager and dealt with everything ourselves. But for a busy person that might not work out

The OP question has been hijacked to a discussion about the pros and cons of property managers -- since it has already happened, I will continue with the hijacking :)

Depending on ones circumstances, personality, proximity, knowledge of law, quality of tenants -- then sure, you can manage it yourself easy peasy.

But, for people lacking in such things, a property manager is the way to go -- but you do need a good one, thus the OP's question.

I have a property in Dunedin so impossible to manage it given I live in Auckland. I have used LJ Hooker for the last 16 years with no real issues.

Property managers take the emotion out of it and also a professional approach for those that aren't good with dealing with tenants.

well put @surfisup1000 get too many peeps doing this when they have an axe to grind.

A lot of property managers do have that condescending attitude towards tenants, and I guess partly is because of the nasty tenants out there that they had to deal with during their careers.

So back to topic, I'm still looking forward to someone to recommend a property manager in the Christchurch area.
