I'm building a house at present and am looking to put in plugs and switches a little sexier than your standard white PDL, but don't really want to pay the huge price some of the locally availible higher end product costs.

Can anyone tell me what the legislation is like around importing electrical switches/plugs from overseas? There's some really nice product availible with great reviews for not many $$ (like Livolo http://livolo.aliexpress.com/store/group/US-AU-Touch-Switch/500715_211400035.html) , but I don't want to get in a situation where I have a fire and the insurance company tells me I breached some electrical legislation and therefore aren't covered.

Similarly there's some really nice zwave home automation availible, but the same applies.

Your electrician will ask for SDOC certificate. There is one available from a NZ supplier for Livolo but unsure whether you can use the below link SDOC with imported Livolo goods.

So to really be kosher, it needs to have been imported by someone who's had the product tested to the appropriate standards. That probably rules out most of the nice Zwave gear.:-(
