I just wondered is there is any way to extend the signal from a base cordless handset? We have a second handset out in an external office - probably only 10-15 metres from where the base handset is located (in the kitchen) and we find it can cause cut outs during conversations using the office handset. I've seen pricey repeaters for sale, and hope there's a more financially viable route to go?

Any help greatly appreciated. :)

Respositioning the base station (higher if possible) to avoid obstacles is the easiest method.

Buying a better phone is probably simpler than using an extender.

There used to be one from either uniden or panasonic that was a dual line cordless that could have up to 6 repeater and handsets, if I recall it was about $250 from warehouse stationery.

I cant see it on their website.

If I recall you could daisy chain the repeaters to get down the back of a warehouse or something like that. The repeater was also a phone charger.

Most vendors make DECT repeaters, but many cheap and nasty phones such as Uniden won't work with them. Good phones such as higher end Panasonic, Gigaset etc will all work.

The fritz box with a fritz Fon can have another fritz box of certain models used as a section repeater. That is the solution I had to use VoIP around the house. Gave up and just forwarded the VoIP number to a sim card so I only had one small device to carry not a giant defy cordless and a cellphone.

But keep an eye on Trademe for dect repeaters. I had a pair of them for some cordless phone in the past. Were cheap to get the package with a bust cordless and base.

Edit: those were doro cordless and repeaters. Worked well enough till handsets failed. Couldn't use those repeaters on the fritz base tho.

Uniden X-Dect

You can buy extra repeaters and chain 6 of them together to roam multiple kilometres away.

You can buy an X-Dect kit from harvy norman which has two or three handsets, a master base and a repeater unit.

We've been using the Uniden X-Dect for about 8 months now.

Bought it - on sale from Warehouse Stationery - to replace an older Panasonic system. Base, one handset and an extra repeater.

Works well, would buy again.

Is it an older model? Seems these days all cordless phones have ungodly reception ranges. Our work ones still work in the car park across the otherwise of a wide road, my Panasonic at home works in the far reaches of my garden with the base station sitting on a steel shelf.

Panasonic sell a twin handset pack with repeater; the added advantage of this is that it also has Bluetooth, so mobile calls can be made and received on the cordless phones (a feature on my Panasonic phones that I love).

Not cheap (starting at $250), but phones are something places like NLs often have at significant reduction.

There is an optional range extender from Panasonic for your model but i dont see it listed in NZ in my quick google

According to specs for this, on an NZ site: "The extender is compatible with KX-TGA7500/6500/4000 series cordless phones." - it doesn't mention a 2000 series, which I imagine mine is (kx-tg2723)
