Recently we have obtained a spa and had new LED down lights installed, this was done by a friend who is a qualified electrician.

We are having an issue getting the work all completed and really want it to be done and done safely so it is all signed off and legal.

The last part of the job is to replace the existing 80 switchboard that has MCB's but no RCD's.

As I used to work for a reputable imported I have all the switchboard, MCB, RCD's main switch already but need to get them installed.

Is any qualified electrician out there able to give me an estimate in hours to remove the old switchboard and install a new 14 way surface mount (current board is a 10-12 way surface mount) and sign off on the work completed?

Our friend is struggling with capacity at the moment so this job, that was started in August (but booked in July) is taking for ever.

I need to get an estimate as we are currently having the house painted so if it is likely to be thousands to get this done we need to have a serious think ,but if we are looking at around <$500 then we would get it done pretty much straight away.

For a start it will involve disconnecting the main switch/supply, which means an electrical inspector will need to be involved. (this must be done unless the board is a sub board ) probably 250ish for that side.

Surface mounting new board may require a builder to fit into the wall / also may not

Getting a sparky to do an hrs only job with parts they have not supplied (can't earn margin on) will put you in the top end of billing.

If your house has not had rcd's before you may have faults which will require testing and resolution / rewiring

Also arguing with sparky whether parts you have purchased are suitable amperage or the brands he has confidence in

4-8 hrs of work 4 if nothing goes wrong, another 2-4 for any faults + inspector charge

Dont forget a C.O.C to certify work is done to standard

$500 - $1000 perhaps

Should have mentioned the meter board is seperate to the switchboard.

Brand of items is from a very well knows supplier, all SDocs are readily available.

Anyone know a good reliable sparky in Pukekohe?

We recently had a spa installed. It needed to be on it's own circuit and RCD installed and about 10 meters of cable and conduit . The cost was $900.

I know a sparky in Patumahoe if that helps. PM for details if required.

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

Thanks guys, I used to work in the industry and there were a few sparkies I go along with really well, but they were all commercial/ industrial electricians!

My partner wants to stay with our friend but I have told her that the job needs to be finished before the spa gets connected.

I explained electricity and water!

+1 (I had similar work done a few years back and it cost $700). For the OP, just call Jack of all Trades, I've used them several times for electrical work and the (several) contractors they've sent have always done a good job.
