I have a 5.1 surround speaker system in a wooden cabinet with a on/off switch on the back of the bass unit which is not accessible when in the cabinet, and wall power plugs are behind the cabinet so also not accessible.

There is not much room in the cabinet and I would like some smallish switch which plugs into the wall and also accepts a 3pin plug from the speaker unit, preferably with a glowing LED light when it is on. I can't seem to fine anything at Jaycar or elsewhere. Any ideas?

Couple of options for you to consider....

- power board with remote foot switch http://www.greentopia.com.au/resize/Shared/Images/EF006-2.jpg?lr=t&bw=1000&bh=1200 (have one at home - very handy for my particular purpose)

- master/slave power board where turning off one appliance (e.g. tv with remote control) results in the 'slave' sockets being powered off. I got an arlec master/slave powerstrip at bunnings for $9 because its a brand they are deleting. Would be ideal for that. I have it turning other monitors and the speakers off when I turn one monitor off because I have worn the powerswithc on some of the cheapies out pretty quickly in the past.

That's a much better solution, switching power to the speakers when the TV or HTPC is switched on. Many thanks for that suggestion.

In fact the TV could be switched on when the PC is powered up. The HTPC contains the TV tuner etc.

I see the Jackson board has a 35 watt threshold before it activates the slave sockets. Anyone know what a PC in sleep mode, not fully shut down, would draw? I assume it would be much less than 35 watts.

I have a PC in my office connected to one of those Jackson power boards. I have it set to power on at 7am (using BIOS settings) and shut down at 6pm, and two LCD displays and a printer are switched. I just told the PC (HP 6200 Pro with an second generation i3 processor) to go to sleep (via Start menu in Win 10) and the slave sockets shut down just fine.
