We live within the Christchurch city area and are with Elgas for 45kg LPG bottles that they deliver (pretty promptly).  The price has gone up from $99 per bottle in 2017 to $129 now (Aug 2019).  I'm wanting to shop around but I can't see prices on LPG provider websites.  Who are you with and what do you pay?

Not in Christchurch, but in Wellington.

With Contact energy for the electricity, and with RockGas for the 45Kg Gas cylinders.

A RockGas cylinder is $104.39 each. Along with the cost per cylinder, there is also a yearly rental charge of $115.

Being with Contact & RockGas means I get a dual energy discount on the electricity. No discounts on the gas.

We use Gas for hot water and gas hobs cooktop. We're a family of 4, and are generally replacing a cylinder every 4-5 weeks in the winter, and a bit longer during the summer months

My friends and I share a modest bach in northern Otago. We get our gas bottles from Energy Online. By all accounts they are the cheapest in the country (and they do seem to service most if not all of the country). They are owned by Genesis so I assume that's why they have such a comprehensive delivery network.

Up until now we have been paying $99 per bottle delivered, and just $5 per month for 2 x bottle rental, however I just received an email from them a couple of days ago saying that the price is going up shortly - to $115 per bottle delivered and $10 per month for the 2 bottles.

However they also said that if we switch our power to them, the gas bottle price will stay at $99. I'm thinking about it as our 2 year power contract with Contact is expiring next month anyway.

Be careful of Energy Online. About every 4 months I get an email from their debt collection agency. Of course they never contacted me themselves and when I request the unpaid invoices I "owe" they are unable to produce them.

Their systems approximate those of the Muppet show.

At $129/ 45kg bottle (614kWh), that works out to 21c/Kwh, quite a bit more than I pay per unit for power (for a standard user).

$105 for Rockgas in CHCH, we have just changed from Elgas. Their annual rental was significantly cheaper too.

Elgas are a nightmare. Avoid. They are also expensive. I switched to Genesis and despite a very rough start, they did (sort of) rectify the issue and things have been smooth sailing since. I think we pay ~100 for a bottle in Auckland and I think $40 for rental.

We just changed recently (Christchurch)

Elgas:

$129.95/bottle

$130 annual rental (for 2 bottles)

Ongas:

$111.90/bottle

$128.80 annual rental (for 2 bottles)

Kiwigas

$112.90/bottle

$80 annual rental (for 2 bottles)

We signed up with Genesis (they are offering two bottles free for Christchurch residents) but they refused to deliver to us because we have a gravel path. So we went for Kiwigas (who had no problems delivering)

We're with Rockgas in Christchurch, and our pricing increased slightly in June to $104.54 per bottle (was previously $103.50).

Our last annual rental charge in December was $97.75

Note: we aren't with Contact for our power, so aren't getting any special discounts that I'm aware of.

EDIT: New gas bottles are always delivered very promptly after ordering via their app (which is about a 5 second process).

Thanks so much everyone!  I've just done a quick dial around as well and confirmed the same:

Rockgas $104.54 per bottle delivered $97.75 annual rental

Genesis $120 per bottle (1st one free), $11 hire

Kiwi Gas $112.90 per bottle, $80 annual for two

Energy Online $115, $10 hire

and I double checked with Elgas to see if they wanted to price match, they didn't.

Handy to note - thanks for this!

I do wish the various providers were more upfront on their costs via their websites.

A Genesis guy knocked on our door and offered two LPG bottles free... Signed up but cancelled the offer as other electricity would run cheaper with the cheaper providers + switching a couple of mates over

That said down to Elgas haha! We're with them currently and I'm just finishing up our last bottle then switching to Rockgas most likely.

Just to clarify for anyone not sure, the $97.75 Rockgas annual rental is for two bottles.
