I've recently been offered access (post-lockdown) to some fairly decent sliding mitre saws on a bring-your-own-blade basis, I figured it was a no-brainer since I could just use 8" Diablo blades but the saws have a 30mm bore and all the < 10" Diablos seem to be 20-25mm. Since I've never looked past Diablo... what else is there out there of equivalent quality that'll handle a 30mm arbor?

Usually hole size scales with blade size to stop people putting undersized blades on large saws, are you sure its made to take an 8" blade?

The one I saw a photo of was some ridiculously-expensive Bosch blue series, 8.something" blade with 30mm arbor. I think another was an AEG, also a 30mm arbor for an 8" or so blade. Maybe it's a German thing, been looking on amazon.de and 30mm bores seem quite common there.

Ryobi mitre saws have a 30mm arbor. Found that out the hard way. You can get Diablo and Irwin blades to fit from Bunnings, certainly in the 10 and 12" sizes. I've currently got some crappy trademe ones on mine. Wouldn't recommend.

Yeah, I want to use decent-quality blades since it's for furniture-type work, so I'm avoiding no-name specials. Just did some checking on Toolstop (UK shop) and all the 8 1/4" blades are 30mm bore while at Mitre10 they're all 25mm, so maybe it's some European thing... I have the feeling the saws were brought over from Germany which means it's going to be a pain if I have to source any decent blades from Europe.

Holy [bleep] didja look at their prices though? What I was after was a reccomendation for something vaguely towards the Diablo end of the quality range without paying 3x Diablo prices.

The Bunnings description wrongly says 20mm arbor.

It might be some remnant of them trying to metricize everything to round numbers needlessly. I have a rather nice but useless to me router bit with a 6mm shank from eBay as a result of them re specifying things to have pretty numbers.

Also, by 8" do you mean 8"(200mm) and/or 8 1/4"(215mm)?

Just got an update this morning, apparently they're 8 1/2" (216mm) not 8 1/4" (209mm). At that size blades with 30mm bores are somewhat easier to find, in particular the one that @Bung pointed out from Bunnings.

I was pretty sure I was originally told 8 1/4" but email overnight when I asked said it was 8 1/2". That seems to be the cutoff point for 30mm bores from NZ sources, so at least there's some blades available when you go from 209 -> 216mm.

Just get a pack of random size bushings to adapt blade to shaft.. I have a ryobi table saw with 16mm shaft that I use a Diablo blade with a 300mm arbor.. I use a 16 to 30 bushing.. works fine...

Actually I confess I didn't notice the 30mm till I opened it after I got home.. 3 hours drive from Bunnings.. I did make a couple of thin washers out of a piece of tin just to get it to hold a bit tighter.. because the hold-on washers on either side of the blade have that slight recess in them.. but it all works good.. and that's on a table saw used for ripping also.. so easier on a cross cut, or drop saw..

You can buy bushing rings easily. The only people with embiggenig holes are machinists with a lathe or mill. If the saw has removable arbor washers it may be possible to buy or make a set to suit smaller blade holes.
