We have A Miele S5211 and it has just stopped rewinding the cord the machine is 11 years old.

Was thinking of trying to repair found a good you tube how to, but I'm afraid if I take it apart to renew the cord mechanism might mess it up.

The vacuum is still working perfectly apart from that, any idea's where I might be able to get spare parts, or do I just use as is and contend with the trailing lead.  Or look to replace it not sure which model to get as there's so many on the market these days.  Might have to wait for the sales!

I say give it a whirl. I recently did my first ever electric motor repair (new bearings and cleaned the commutator while I had it apart) to salvage SWMBO's favourite vaccuum. I figured if I couldn't get it sorted,  no worse off than we were before, and if I fixed it, bonus.

We had an issue with the wand (if that's the metal tube that connects to the hose is called) and contacted the local agent. They either fixed it or sent us out a new one gratis and it was long out of warranty.

Needapart says $220 last time they got one. Pretty pricy for a 11 yr old machine, especially if it goes wrong.

Seems a common issue  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_G7NTJBYqAk . I do wonder why in this vid they switched the part rather than find out why the old one failed, but guess time is money.
