Hi,

I have a special wall switch for my heated towel rail that has 5 different timer settings for 24/7 operation, the shortest time offering being 3 hours.

But I would like a switch for an extractor fan that will run for time periods more like 5-30 minutes and then automatically turn off. No 24/7 recurrence.

Oh, exactly like what I have for the garden sprinkler system, but instead of for water, for electricity. 😀

Does anyone know if such things exist in NZ?

Sort of like this?

https://www.bunnings.co.nz/manrose-fan-timer-20-200w_p0553888

There are a bunch of different makes and models designed exactly for extractor fans.

@pih I guess, though that doesn't look like a switch.

I have seen some that have an adjustable timer but that part is located behind the plate so once its set it's hard to change.

I'm thinking an external dial that is accessible to set the time, and a push-button. ??

Ah, I see they have a proper name - run on timers.

Now that I am searching for that I am getting a lot more hits.

Still not exactly what I am looking for, but some could be fit for purpose.

Run on timers are great for bathroom fans.
Mine has a crap feature where the fan doesn't start for 10-15 seconds when switched on. But it's still great.

I've seen them installed so the fan comes on with the light and runs on after the light is turned off, great if the user won't turn on the fan.

@kiwifidget the one pih posted goes behind the switch between it and the fan. allows the fan to run for 7 minutes after the switch is turned off

The one below is adjustable (not easily) but lives behind the wall plate

The wall switch we have just looks like a double light switch.

One switch for the stand-alone lights, and another for the extractor/light.

We also had new ones just installed.

The old ones were hard-wired to the switch, but the new ones have a 3-point plug which we had to get installed in the roof by the sparkies.

I wonder if the run-on is compatible with that.

Hi. Here is same product from Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/GE-Countdown-Required-Included-15318/dp/B007BJULYS/ref=zg_bs_6291360011_18?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=XR0QAR7A5QSRQSD0H68R

I have purchased a telephone call recorder from Ubuy last year for work and it was all fine.

I have run all the options by Himself, and he thinks the run-on timer is the best idea.

Plenty of them to be found locally.

Thanks everyone.

PDL also do a timer switch (PDL648TM) that can do 15 seconds to 2 hours, easily available locally.

That GE timer looks like it's only rated for 125V.

We have a PDL one for an internal toilet extractor (no window). You configure the time you want via bluetooth, then it's just a push button to activate for the preset time. If you push the button while the extractor is running it manually turns it back off before the timer expires.

I'm not sure what the model is, but it fits the PDL Iconic series wall plates.

EDIT: It might be this one, but I can't check until I get home.

@paul1977  Does that have to be reset after a power cut?

Just checked, and the one I linked to above isn't what I have.

I have the PDL348PB10TMBT, but it appears the PDL356PB10MBTW I linked above has now superseded it according to this FAQ.

Note that the PDL348PB10TMBT and the PDL348PB6TMBT have been superceded by PDL356PB10MBTW-VW and PDL346PB6TCMBT-VW.

I'm pretty sure the "-VW" at the end of the code is just specifying the colour "Vivid White".
