I need to replace a shower hose which seems to have sprung a leak. T'internet seems to suggest these have "universal" (1/2 inch) sizes but I know how my luck typically rolls when the water is off. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

The shower head is branded Felton. Nothing on the hose.

You are going to have to take it off, so just measure it then??...

Or even better take it with you when you go to find a replacement....

Reverse that.. take the shower head you want to attach to the hose, make sure it screws into the new hose.

This is a good idea. I don't have a thread pitch gauge so was worried about buying something that looked like it should match but then leaked once I got it home.

If anyone does know, I'd still be keen to hear if (in theory) it should be universal though. I could do without turning the water off, disassembling (potentially breaking something) only to then have to turn around and reassemble, only to find it leaks worse than before and I end up paying extra for the emergency plumber call-out...

They are pretty much all half inch with rubber washers.

I've seen lots of 1/2" NPT and one 3/4" NPT.  I've never seen another thread in NZ.

I don't see why it is necessary to turn off the water (at the mains)?

Felton are an NZ company - just get the correct one from them.

Because... I always do for changing washers...?

You raise an excellent point! I didn't really think through that the faucet is downstream of the mixer.

I had to replace one in our master ensuite last week, I would recommend just taking the old hose with you (as I did), although you'll find 99% of them are identical.

Zero need to turn the water off at the toby, you'll have a small amount of water left in the hose from the last use, but that is all.

The thread is but the part that holds into the bracket is different between them, some are a tapered cone and others have a straight part on them. You need one that will fit into your shower holder. The thread is always the same I have found.

Please be aware the inner diameter can be different.

I purchased the cheapest one I could find and the inner diameter was significantly smaller, which in my low pressure shower caused the water to be more of a dribble.

Had to purchase a larger internal diameter one to get it back to normal.
