What's the peak hour rate when Orion Network kicks in their 9c sur-charge week days from 7am to 10am and 5pm to 7pm for those in Christchurch?

I'm on the eSaver plan which you havn't shown. Here's my recent Genesis bill which is pretty self explanatory (note 12.5% discount on price where I get the day rate 25.61c):

You cannot base the fact that you think someone is being charged so much with Flick based purely on the fact that they live in a newly built 2 bedroom house. Their bills can differ wildly based on how they use their power.

You can ONLY base on whether Flick is costing them more by comparing their actual usage against other providers.

Flick allow you to download your 30 minute usage back for over 12 months now. Get that info, then compare what they've been billed against other providers rates.

Thats what I do, and I can assure you I am making a long term saving over any other provider (apart from Paua to the People as their admin rates are slightly cheaper than Flick).

I'm basing the fact that people I know in Christchurch have left Flick and I must admit, i've been slack on leaving too. To hear others that are still on Flick in Christchurch complain how high their bills are just confirms what i've been saying all along. You can't get around the Orion Network sur-charge that Flick has to pass on while other retailers can give you a near flat rate low price all year around. Thank you Genesis for the free 4 hours this July.... I will use it to my advantage (:

If you want the exact spot price for your connection you can find this information easily.

1. Go to this address and enter in your ICP number (on your bill)

2. Scroll down till you find your "POC" which is the grid node that your ICP is reconciled against

3. Go to https://www.electricityinfo.co.nz and go into the price data and look up the Node that is your POC

A few things to note;

NRS Schedule: This is the non-responsive schedule and every half hour is solved for the next eight trading periods and every two hours is solved for trading periods one through 72

PRS Schedule: This is the price responsive schedule and includes an additional input of bids from consumers who will drop their load once price gets to a certain point. THIS IS NOT DEMAND RESPONSE

REAL TIME PRICING: colloquially known as the five minute prices, this is based on actual off take and is largely a reference

Interim: An ex-post solved if there are no issues these become final prices

Final: Actual settlement price

I was thinking about this and you could do something similar here, not really making money but you could save money by charging overnight during cheap rates then using leaf power during peak times. This would save you $$. Especially during the Orion peak times

I was working out a few weeks ago that using a Tesla Powerwall 2 at home we could run the house at off peak prices only, even through winter. Would still take a while to pay off though.

Could you please show how you did that + where the API information is?

At this stage the only API information I have is a link from Flick to their applet in IFTTT.

You need to be a Flick customer to get access to the applet as far as I am aware as it links to your meter. You can choose an IFTTT trigger on spot price or carbon emission.

I have a Daikin WiFi adapter on my lounge heatpump that is also IFTTT compatible and a

SONOFF switch

on my hot water cylinder again IFTTT compatible.

This is very cool and exciting and I feel a tad ungrateful but I want more. You don't just need the price right now to make good decisions about what to turn on and off. You need to know how long the price spike is forecast to last. Also, ideally, you would be warned in advance that a price spike was coming. This is much richer information with which to schedule your hot water boosts or your heat pump heating etc.

So I'd like to see a single feed of continually updated forecast prices for the current trading interval and the next 6-8 hours. Is that too much to ask?

You have to contact Flick to get a link as they have to put your ICP number the link.

I am also using Sonoff devices which have been amazing to use when compared with Wemo and others. Set up quickly and faultlessly so far. I have a POWR2 that turns on the hot water element when power is cheap, and also turns it on during night rate regardless.

I have a couple spare SLAMPHER light controllers if anyone wants to try them, $18 each delivered, PM me.

So thanks Flick, they gave me access to the IFTTT applet.

I have it setup now so I when the price of power is going to be over X (I have to edit the IFTTT applet to adjust X), it sends a Web request to my Home Assistant, which then triggers the 3 thermostats in my house to turn off. So the poor kids will freeze, but at least I won't be paying megabucks for Power.

Very easy to setup!
