So thanks Flick, they gave me access to the IFTTT applet.

I have it setup now so I when the price of power is going to be over X (I have to edit the IFTTT applet to adjust X), it sends a Web request to my Home Assistant, which then triggers the 3 thermostats in my house to turn off. So the poor kids will freeze, but at least I won't be paying megabucks for Power.

Very easy to setup!

How about sending a text to your kids at the same time to put on some warm clothing, or, have that shower now before the water goes cold!

It's only the heater in a 3 and a 5yo's bedroom at night. They're under lots of blankets anyway, but their room temp can drop to 10c sometimes on a really cold night with no heater.

Most industry participants scrape it using Webmethods. However, with the upgrade to the new technology I believe there may be a public facing API so perhaps email them.

With that you could load the schedule data (NRS / PRS) which would give you a ~36 hour forecast of prices.

So I'd like to see a single feed of continually updated forecast prices for the current trading interval and the next 6-8 hours. Is that too much to ask?

The flick ifttt API supports threshold crossing for predicted prices as well as current , in fact , that was implemented before the current price threshold crossings were. I think it's only 1 hr into the future at present thought.

Hi SBQ,

Thank you for your insights around Genesis Power, I missed what you have clearly noted cost wise and was heading towards ecotricity.

As a CHCH consumer who is not happy with the 4 month winter penalty from Orion, I have a question for you. How come you went for the eSaver Classic plan over say the eSaver Household plan?

And just one more query, of your total 4 month winter consumption (May - August), do you have a rough % between your Peak vs Off Peak (Day vs Night) consumption. I realize we may have differing usage patterns but I am interested as 1/3 of a 24 weekday is on Night rates plus the weekends.

Hi Fjeff, i've sent reply to your msg inbox and I read you're looking at going with the Genesis eSaver Household plan (using over 9000 kwh / year). As you are aware, the WAF (wife acceptance factor) is always a consideration. When we were with Flick last year, wifey got all annoyed about 'when' to use the power or not. I mean it got to the point that everything was so inconvenient having to check the current price on the online CHOICE APP and then making a decision if we should cook dinner or when we should do the laundry. The female factor is clear, they do want convenience and laundry ticks very high on the MUST TO DO list. What I do like about Genesis (for those in Christchurch), is if the wife doesn't want to run the washing machine after 9pm, then she has her Saturday and Sunday option (any time in the day but usually in the morning). You probably know the off peak price is considerably cheaper than the day rate (like less than 1/2 price) ; it's a matter of translating the savings. Of the many things you have to do running a house with kids, convenience is a high priority. You would have to be a special kind of family that can handle the Flick open market pricing. Myself, I want my meals ready at reasonable times of the day.

For those that are curious, our day / night consumption rate is near 50/50 throughout the year. Space heating is mostly used off peak (in slab water heating as heat storage).

Where did you find the Flick IFTTT API? I've hacked something together that shows me the next four hours but would be much better to have something officially supported:

This is the API URL that provides the info, but the supply_node is specific to my location so you'll need to find your own supply_node and get your bearer auth key by sniffing API traffic from the mobile app.

Once you can get the info you're free to format it as you like. I've got it running in a Python Flask app.

Wow. Flick has about 24000 customers, a little less than Electric Kiwi. 46 million divided by 24000 is a tough ask, so yes, bound to be an "increase Z fuel sales and increase Flick electricity sales" Two necessity products, maybe not a bad idea. Two birds with one stone.

I must revisit Flick, I am with EK.
