Anyone looked at a solar carport?

...

SolarPort - Solar powered Carport | Lightforce Solar

...

From what I was told its also available from JA Russells and some other place - all from the same vendor.

Vendor is Goodwe, and it is covered here:

This has popped up on my feed a few times over the past couple of weeks.

SolarPort - Solar powered Carport | Lightforce Solar

Seems like it might be a go for me - decromastic tile so can't install solar on my roof, and dont want to replace roof.

Also might be easier to upgrade panels in the future if that becomes a cost effective exercise.

How come ? , is it too damaged. We have decromastic tiles and had solar installed.

Old ones have asbestos in the glue for the fake stone crap. Noone seems to care when its shedding off and down the stormwater, but drilling holes in it or walking on it is a no-no for tradies.

No experience but having solar on the carport looks great especially if you’d like a carport next to the house anyway. I hate the idea of putting anything on my roof.

I think in general using solar panels as part of the structure is somethign we should be doing more of, particularly for new-builds.  It has always seemed a bit strange to build a roof of sheeting material, then to put brackets on it and mount more sheeting material over the top.   There are systems available where the solar is the roof structure, but they seem to be expensive and rarely used.

The carport is a simple and effective idea where the panels actually create the shelter, which would appear to make the whole thing quite cost-effective and neat.

We have them had no problems at all with getting solar installed, Harrison’s would of taken the job as well.

And working with friable asbestos products is really only dangerous if you are constantly exposed to it over a long period of time. The risk aversity is over the top.

Glad to see a medical professional dropped by.

In the real world, my father in law had one exposure to asbestos, which killed him 45 years later.

That sounds somewhere between BS annd unlikely. Even in the extremely risk averse literature, exposure for minutes to hours is deemed “low” risk. The vast majority of cases are from constant work place exposure.
You might be unlucky enough to get mesothelioma from one brief exposure but the risk of getting run over by a bus will be higher.

From https://www.asbestos.com/exposure/short-term/

How Bad Is One-Time Exposure to Asbestos?

Usually, short-term asbestos exposure isn’t a major risk. Typically, asbestos diseases like mesothelioma arise from long-term exposure at work. If you were exposed to asbestos for one day, the health risk depends on how much asbestos dust you inhaled.

Just had this installed, 8.1 kW of goodness. Although the seasons are changing we are seeing great financial benefits already. The other thing is changing habits to suit power availability.

Really? I've had several companies over the years take a look and say no.

Who did you use?

Nice.  Did you do the sums for tilting  them to collect more winter sun?

In Wellington ended up with solar man , Harrison’s said no issues as well and were happy to install. Rheem also were happy. They were installed about a year ago .We may have issues replacing the roof at some point. We had it all rechipped and sprayed by kōwhai roofing.
