WE have a F&P stainless that was installed a couple of years ago, and it doesn't work anywhere near as well as the bosch ones. For a start it doesn't dry the dishes properly, which the bosch one does.

FWLIW, we had a Nautilus when we were in Australia, and had problems with it from day one. Our current F&P dishwasher is leaps and bounds ahead in terms of build quality.

What he said... We had a Nautilus from new, it lasted nearly 9 years, but had quite a few visits from the repairman - 2 sets of new rack rollers, door springs, door rubbers, the fascia plate at the bottom fell off. We replaced with the F&P one touch as above (member of family is partially sighted - less options=good) have had no problems in 18 months (but wouldn't expect to anyway)

On top of that, we were pleased to see when we got our new One Touch, that F&P had addressed some of the minor design shortcomings in the original one we'd purchased. FI, our first one had an annoying habit of having the top rack getting stuck, due to the design of the stopper at the end of the track. They changed the design of that stopper so this can no longer happen. Also, I'm sure the upper cutlery drawer has more clearance than it used to. Our knives certainly seem to be fitting into it better.

gregmcc: In the past I would have said buy a F&P, but the current dishwasher we have (Elba about 4 years old) has given us problem after problem

2 x pump failures
1 x door switch failure
1 x door latch failure

While the extended warantee has paid for all the repairs I can see why things have failed, F&P now use parts sourced from Haier (Yes the cheap chineese brand that brought in to F&P).

I won't even mention the F&P fridge of about the same age which has suffered failures of the ice maker (but that's a whole other story)

While F&P were reliable and wholy NZ owned they were good, but now they are not reliable or totally NZ owned, go buy something else

The door latch must a be a common problem, I have seen two around that age where the latches have failed.

It replaced an Ariston that lasted about 9 years.
The best thing about the Bosch is its VERY quiet. As our kitchen lounge is adjoining that means when its running it mostly cant be heard.

The Bosch is 2-3 hours on regular cycle - but its supposed to be the most efficient cycle.
I found dishes were coming out a bit wet at the end though - so after poking around manged to turn on an extra drying feature - so probably defeated the power savings.

Dont know how long it will last.

They are quite nice, but you can get cheaper ones that are built in for about $1200, and are in the 'classic' range. We also have a bosch, the only compliant with it is that one of the steel spikes where the cups go in teh drawer has detached at the weld leaving a rusty gap.

We put that exact lg dishwasher in our kitchen about a month ago and we are really happy with it, like the bosch its auto cycle is quite lenghty, but it does have cycle options obviously. The dishes come out really clean and dry with no rinsing.

My parents where here a couple of weeks ago and commented on how quite it was compared to there F&P one. We generally put it on in the evening so we can unload it before we go to bed and we don't notice it while watching tv.

For what its worth Harvey Normans matched the price the good guys offered us which was $1050.

Bosch are the pick if money is a consideration - while they're certainly not the cheapest on the market, they do offer a quality unit at a good price.
Miele will cost more, but quite literally, they will outlast anything you will see in stores. However, as the stores don't own the stock, they can't do cash deals / finance... so be prepared to pay sticker price.

My first F&P was a double dishdrawer. It gave nothing but trouble for the two years I had it. The second is a single dishdrawer. The sales rep claimed the problems I'd experienced were all known faults and had been fixed. Sucker me believed him :-(
Door latch failures started just before the warranty expired. About a week or so after that the element burnt out. The door switch is temperamental and despite regular & thorough cleaning the dratted thing periodically decides not to drain.

My F&P stainless steel fridge worked well but within a month of the warranty expiring the door seals all split.

My F&P washing machine has a fault in the electronics which will cost almost as much to repair as a new machine. Again, this developed almost right after the warranty ran out. The washing machine was a replacement for one that was faulty.

I will NEVER buy another F&P product.

Have got a 40 year old F&P chest freezer. Still going strong, although the seal is a bit split. They don't make them like they used to. I also had a rep try to sell me a dishdrawer who said that they were really reliable these days. I didn't give them the opportunity and instead went for a F&P regular dishwasher. It is average, and doesn't dry properly like our bosch, but was ok for the money (about $800)

Miele if you can afford it, we replaced an ASKO that over the period of 10 years pretty much had everything in it replaced.

Had the Miele for 8 years now and not a problem (touching wood as I type). Plus if you are geeky you can get the programming manual and change every thing (hotter water, longer dry cycles etc). Upper cutlery draw really gets cutlery clean.

Mate has a Bosch and its easily 10 years old and hasnt faulted.

I had a Bosh in my old house. It was great. Loaded well and worked well The new house has a F&P dish draw. Worse dishwasher ever made. At work we have a F&P washer not a dishdraw and it's real bad as well . It can't even dry the dishes so next morning it's just a wet mess..

We bought a cheap Simpson after having a Dishlex. We thought the Dishlex was quiet, but the Simpson is amazingly quiet!

My house had a cheap Simpson when I bought it. I'll never touch Simpson again. The racks were awful, it was noisy, just horrible to use. Sure it's probably 7-8 years old, but it's just really poorly made.

My vote goes to the Bosch as well.. never had a problem, and have since recommended to several friends who are also pleased with their decision...
