khull: cayenne pepper? try curry powder. It works every time

My cat likes curry, infact it eats almost everything, so I can't see something like that putting them off.

Speaking of dogs we have a dog problem at our place. Dog do do all around the lawn, the trouble is we never see the dog to know who or where.  Though I have the solution when I do find out whose it is.

It involves a paper bag, the dog do do, some kerosene and a match,  The dog do do goes in the paper bag, the bag gets doused in kerosene placed near the front door of the owners house, the bag is lit and the door bell rung. meanwhile you retreat to a safe spot.

The person answering the door will see the burning paper bag and stomp on it to put it out and end up with dog do do all over the soles of their shoes. Hopefully they get the message. Innocent

I strongly advise against that course of action. So many ways that could go horribly wrong. You could end up with a criminal record.

I would suggest a less potentially confrontational method, such as calmly approaching the owner and asking them to do do something about the situation.

could try get some spikey rubber mats or something, cats dont like to walk on spikey things so set up a fortress of them to keep them back. I have also heard cats dont like walking on tinfoil for some reason.

could even have some fun with it if you got a motion sensor with a water sprinkler of some sort

OO OO! scatter some thumtacs arround! cat would certainly enjoy stepping on one of those >:D

yeah wouldnt be too hard to make water sprinkler user motion sensor and relays etc. Just getting activator from car door and then trying to keep it in box to tidy it i suppose. Have heard of ultrasound motion one which would be good if works. Around $100 but where I have looked out of stock.
havent tried the spiky plastic matting or similar yet, maybe a rubber car mat turned upside down with the tiny spikes upwards is worht a try

Dont clean the spray with any ammonia based cleaners, Cats see this as someone else marking the territory and it will make things worse.

I make a scent based repellent out of crushed garlic/crushed chilli "blended" with oil- it doesnt smell too bad. Target a wide area. Spring has sprung so things may get worse for a while

Laser light on a sensor? cat will be more interested in chasing the dot than peeing on your property.

gzt: I like cats. Best solution is a high power water pistol. They hate it and will not come back after you get them a few times. Also it is completely harmless. Warehouse has tons of them.

We have tried this at home, even with a hose still the stray cat returns. Will be getting a trap from the SPCA and just hope our cat isn't silly enough to get caught at the sametime :-)

still having trouble. High power water gun doesnt work. We have security screen door so even put moth balls where they cant get at them but the smell didnt deter it. Lined the path and door channel with cayenne pepper and no deterrent.   I have bought a security sensor light and will put that up hoping that whent the cat comes close the light goes on and MIGHT scare it off. Not hopeful though.

I have seen that but thought that smell going through the house would be as bad or even worse

Naphthalene aka Mothballs is very affective, you need to use it until the cats habits are changed. I use it to stop the neighbourhood pests from using the garden as a toilet.
