Yep, or just find out how much a local garage door repair guy charges. Im sure there would be an old guy out there somewhere who knows all about component level diagnostics.

Fixed !

It turned out to be what at a couple of posters suggested, a loose solder joint...dead simple to fix.
So it would have been the vibration of the whole unit that was moving the component, breaking the connection and making the problem intermittent.
