Interesting reading here;

http://www.heatermate.com.au/attachments/Heatermate_White_Paper.pdf

It makes sense.

Ive found the built in digital thermostats a bit variable. I have one Goldair oil heater rather accurate and switches off at sensible temperatures. Then we have another (two) with built in digital thermostats/timers and they are a bit rubbish.

If I saw another of the Goldair I'd but it immediately - however doesn't seem like they make them anymore :(

These plug-in thermostats seem to alleviate those problems :)

BTW had a look on ebay and ~$50 seems to be the going price for these type of things for the UK etc

timmmay:
freitasm: That's perfect... Contacting the AU retailer to find out shipping to NZ.

It says on the page it's AU$10 for ANZ shipping, which suggests Australia or New Zealand. Perhaps ask about shipping for a higher number, I'd probably get a couple, and I live a short walk from you. I don't know exactly where you live, but I walk up in the general direction you live in a couple of times a week for exercise, I may even walk past your house!

Just received a reply:

"For 3 units Australia post fee to NZ jumps to $19.95 so it will be extra $10 for 3 units - AU$109.90 in total."

It comes to AU$36.65 for me and two for you at AU$73.25 if you want to get it? Do you have Paypal? Let send me a PM and we can do it...

Let me ponder my requirements, and I may ask the kiwi firm if they can do a better price as well.

Ok. Let me know and I might get two for the $9.99 shipping price if you don't come on board.

I have a reply that indicates you should hold off your Australia orders for now, but I'm asking a follow up question and I'll clarify later today.

Frank from Goodsteps is prepared to offer the same prices as the Australian manufacturer. Contact him directly using the contact form on the website, don't place an order through the website.

This sounds like a one time offer and a very low margin for him, so be nice.

wow! me too - been looking for these for years.  I even contacted a UK manufacturer to see if they could/would build some with a NZ plug on them!

Depending on the price I may order 2 or 3.  I know you said he will match the AU price, but what does that come out at in NZD with delivery (Wellington).  I know I could contact the guy directly but don't want to spam the guy.  At this rate he may get quite a few orders!

Cheers GeekZone

Suggest you use xe.com to convert the currency, though remember that's wholesale rates so it may be a touch higher. Shipping is on their website, around $8 from memory.

Cheers Timmay - will send them an email - thanks for doing the haggling :)

I prefer the x-rates web site over xe, rates and add 2.5% for the bank's margins. If you pay with PayPal, never use their "cheap" conversion because they charge 3.5%, always let your bank do the conversion (at least if with ASB).

With all the interest, is there not someone that wants to arrange a group buy?

I've asked for a price for 3 delvered to Wellington.  If he matches the AU price, based on the Mastercard exchange rate that would come out at around $125 NZD which works out around half price based on their website.

I think that's a good price and really, who better than geeks to spread the word on what should be a very useful product.  I presume that as they have an AU safety approval they are also approved for sale in NZ (sorry to be a negative ninny).  If they are the official NZ distributor they could make a killing before the big shops get wind of them.

I don't buy into the "savings calculations" from the AU site but I'm sure they will pay for themselves over a couple of years - I'm more interested in the stable temperature that they hopefully will provide.
