How do you get on with nylon carpet and static electricity? Can you build up a charge if you scuff your feet? That could fry your electronics.

I'm visualizing scuffing your feet and picking up the tablet from the coffee table and *fritz*, bye bye tablet.

I never never noticed any static electricity at all.

I agree with you there. My dogs have always been inside dogs and its no less healthy than having humans around babies.

That said, I "thought" I had a really good vacuum cleaner. Floors were vacuumed frequently and the carpet is cleaned professionally every year. Then I replaced the vacuum cleaner and was totally grossed out by how much dog hair came out of it!

That said, I "thought" I had a really good vacuum cleaner. Floors were vacuumed frequently and the carpet is cleaned professionally every year. Then I replaced the vacuum cleaner and was totally grossed out by how much dog hair came out of it!

Yeah we've got an 11 month old baby and 2 inside dogs. Granted they haven't had an inside accident in years (the dogs!) but they're still rough and tumble dogs they like to bring in the odd bit of dirt and the like every now and then! We specifically bought a Consumer recommended vacuum that picks up all dog hair (although only one of our dogs sheds hair and even then it's not a lot). The baby loves rolling around in the carpet with the dogs and while we generally intervene if the licking gets out of hand, we're not precious about it.

We put in new carpet last June (2012). I won't name brands but it was one of the new silky-feel solution dyed nylon type carpets (quite long pile and feels like a teddy bear). It was fantastic and incredible to walk and sit on. Would often lie on it rather than sit on the couch. That carpet lasted 9 months before we got it replaced under warranty by the manufacturer (although this process dragged on for several months!). From what I've heard (from the carpet layer themselves) a few of the different brands of this type of carpet suffer issues. Our issue was matting of the carpet. This isn't cheap carpet either.

We got it swapped out for a standard, cut-pile, solution dyed nylon and so far are really happy. Love the lack of fluffing up that occurs with wool carpets. Also the fact that it is nice and easy to clean and fairly stain resistant - with 2 dogs and a baby this is vital. Again we went for a good quality carpet that is more dense than normal.

Well CC have been to see us, I think we will get a comparative quote for the same type of carpet, but I am wondering if anyone else could recommend any other flooring companies in Auckland? It's all a little mind boggling.

Also the carpet they recommended is $330 a Lineal Meter (RRP) , anyone know if there is a common level of discount that gets applied?

After renovating 5 years back we put in solution dyed nylon carpet. We are supposed to get it cleaned each year but haven’t got a round tuit yet as still waiting for EQ repairs. So far it looks pretty much like new. No pilling, tracking or flat spots.

Spilt a full hot cup of black coffee (complete with grinds) on it and a few days later got the cleaners in and they got it all out with no sign it was ever there. One of the kids dropped a tub of “slime” in their room. It gooped deep down onto the pile – that all came out.

Lounge area is in full sun most of the day – no sign of fading.

Usual kids dirt (and there is tons of that – including food and liquids around dining table) gets vacuumed up no problems. We just spot clean generally with a bleach / water mix.

Move a dining or lounge chair and the pile pops back up

Fair go had an interesting story last night on carpets. I only caught a bit of it, but recall one of the brands saying you need to get it steam cleaned at least every 24 months otherwise the warranty is void. Who does that? I have a deep cleaning vacuum cleaner which vibrates it and gets heaps of the deep down dust out.
My own experience is that our wool carpet has been eatten around the edges by some bug. Also has occurred around where furniture has been on it. So not sure if I would buy wool again. Apparently you have to respray the carpet to protect it.

Can't see how that can be true because you can get lifetime warranties on some things. I had a 25 year warranty on some knives which I got replaced after 20 years
