Flyspray only affects those Wasps outside the nest and is short term , the powder is taken inside the nest by returning wasps and kills the wasps inside including the queen and lasts several days. One puffer bottle cost circa $16 last a long time.

Flyspray has pretty much worked for me.

But, next time I'm at bunnings maybe i'll throw some wasp poison in the trolley.

This is how I do it - depends on the size.

I wore 4-5 layers of thick close, face fully covered, gloved - spray (as much as you can), run, hide.

Those the size of less than rugby ball - put shorts, no shirts, bare feet - spray spray spray spray spray run and hide.

surfisup1000: i've used flyspray over the last 10 years or so...never been stung yet.

You've just been lucky.
You cannot outrun a wasp.  If one gets you, then others will home in on pheromones, and you'll potentially be attacked by thousands of them.
At this time of year, the nests may be very large.

I wouldn't do this on a large nest -- these are just those little paper wasp nests that are built in shrubs and roof eaves. Usually you can only see 2 or 3 at a time.

I wonder if usain bolt could out run a wasp.  Certainly dotcom might have trouble.

WARNING: This advice applies to nests in the open not in houses.

If you have a lage number of wasps appear watch which direction they fly. Over time you will observe a consistent flight pattern of wasps returning to the nest which will assist you locating it.

Wait until after dusk when the wasps are inactive, then pour petrol into the wasp nest entrance, have something handy to block the entrance and prevent the petrol fumes escaping. The fumes are what kills, don't light the petrol you will have the sudden appearance of angry agitated wasps in your vicinity.

As emphasized above sloshing petrol around in your home is a bad idea. Use some other method or get an expert.

My wife was stuck 15 times while waling in a bush with the kids, when a puppy disturbed a nest. She was stung so much because she was whacking the wasps off the kids instead of herself. She did not get packed by wasps, that only happens in movies, but 15 stings is where it can get fatal. Fortunately about half the stings were repeats, not 15 wasps, so not that much poison. At the time she was also heavily overweight so lots of body fat for the poison to dilute.

Point is, it does not take hundreds of wasps to be fatal now will you get covered in hundreds. Up to now I would (and have) also use fly spray (never stung, being a careful person). But given the price quoted above I would certainly go for powder as it does not cost not much more than fly spray. Also I find fly spray is not what it used to be, and has a short shelf life. Some modern fly sprays are actually pheromones to just drive them away, not kill them.

So in short:
1. If you have the cash and don't mind paying - get an exterminator
2. If you don't want to pay someone - buy wasp powder and use that while covering up
3. DON'T USE FLY SPRAY.
