Dynamic: I *think* legally you have to be able to isolate it - i.e. switch it off.  A separate switch down below should be fine.

The isolation point is probably at the circuit breaker or main switch. Ordinary switches are functional switches, they don't technically provide isolation. To do with contact clearances. ]

Yes, its a new run, the old rangehood used a socket within the side of the oven.

Thanks everyone for the help, will order and sort with the sparky next week.

Cheers - on with the gib!

gregmcc:

Technically the range hood is an appliance, it has a 3 pin plug on it, if you place the 3 pin plug in a position that means it normally be accessed (under the cover for the exhaust duct for example) then there must be another isolation point somewhere else, either a socket outlet with an extra switch (shown in a previous post in this thread) or a light switch style switch somewhere else.

Circuit Breaker would be the isolation point.

I am hoping for your sake it is going to be behind the chute and not the rangehood itself. That point looks really low, high ceilings?

Our house was built 2011 and has a normal socket inside the stainless ducting cover.  You need to remove a couple of small screws to get to it.  The socket for the dishwasher and disposal unit is in a cupboard behind the sink, behind lots of stuff which effectively makes it just as inaccessible.

To me the accessibility requirement makes sense when you have a fuse board rather than circuit breakers.
