richms: 5 x lithium is 20v if you are one of the drill makers... makita I think..

That is marketing nonsense, where they incorrectly use the charge termination voltage as the nominal.  Nominal is 3.7V or 3.8V per cell (3.2V or 3.3V for LiFePO4).  That marketing nonsense is one of the reasons why IATA specify Wh thresholds for air freight instead of Ah, and lately cells get labelled (by cell manufacturers) in Wh.

Did the OP want cordless?  If is not specified in the title or the first post.  I'd go for a wet and dry shop vacuum.  At work we have a Worx branded one form Supercheap Auto (or is it Repco?) for cleaning up our mechanical lab including metal swafs from the mill and lathe.  It sucks well, got lots of power as it is designed to suck up water.

I have an older version of one of these 18V Black & Decker dustbusters.  This is not a car one, but I can recommend it as being very good and powerful. http://blackanddecker.co.nz/homeproducts/productdetails/catno/PV1810/

there is a 12V car version of a similar thing: http://blackanddecker.co.nz/homeproducts/productdetails/catno/PAV1205/
