Mark:
hio77: very nice setup.. what did that cost to have put in?

I took the 4KW system which is $2499 plus $92.50 per month for the next decade or so ;-)  Doing the sums it looks to "pay for itself" in the next 2.5 to 3 years.  I live in Mangawhai and power he is flakey so for us its not just the power bill savings it's the UPS for when power goes out (and it goes out if the wind even thinks of blowing!)

And if anyone is still interested this is what the dashboard looks like :

Sungenie Dashboard

It got taken out of standby at about 11:30am today.  Green is where you are using solar generated power, blue is where power is going back to the grid and grey is power used from the grid, the line is an indication of solar generation.

not setting out to burst your bubble re payback period but you might want to review this thread for more detail / npv analysis etc:

that said it  is a cool looking system - just not sure the payback is quite there yet though : )

Looks like the perfect system for your situation if power outages are a major inconvenience, its like leasing an enormous subsidised UPS.  Then there is the fun of making your own power and the challenge of optimising usage, which it sounds like you are on top of already.  The user interface is nice, what's the per kWh rate you have loaded?  Here on the North Shore I am paying about $0.29 per kWh for the low user plan (plus just under $0.39 per day for the daily lines charge)   Now that winter has decimated my power production I may swap back to the standard user rate with lower per kWh fee but higher daily line charge fee.
