True ... That would indeed make them the same

By my reasoning they'd both be masters.

We used to sell M outlets, I think up to a couple of years back. They're all 2C now.

Ok that's interesting, esp the dyi install comment. So transparent one is bedroom 1, the normal looking one is from the master bedroom, however it is the same as the one that's in bedroom two. All had two sets of wires (guessing in/out). I'm pretty sure all the sockets I've been able to get at so far have the number '2' on the flap.

No, Richms is correct, these are both 2wire versions. They are not 2C and they cannot be masters because they only have 2 separate electrical connections Note each set of connections is commoned up. i.e. all the white ones are connected together.

Both master and secondary connectors need at least 3 separate connections, these don't have them

So like he says they are the older 2 wire type before they brought in 2C

in fact if the OP posts pictures of the other side you will se a"2" on the flap

PDL make their grid plates transparent for the 1, 2 and 3 aperture models. I think this is so a sparky can quickly remove the cover plate and do a visual inspection of the wiring behind the plate.

So I've popped open the socket which I though was the master. It has 3 cables going to it. 1 is labelled Alarm(!), another has the number 2 on it (suspect that's going to the 1st bedroom). The third is unlabelled and is wired into the middle (white) and top (blue) connectors, if you were to look at it with the capacitor at the bottom.

Does this mean my phone is going to my alarm first? I didn't even think that was connected to the phones.

Most likely a line grabber. Hope you have a master filter installed :)

Your reasoning and memory are playing tricks on you. The Telepermit for Master jacks expired in 1999, for Secondary jacks in 2000. If you were selling M outlets they'd be very old stock. 2 wire jacks had capacitors and were all equal, the concept of master and secondary only existed on 3 wire installations.

Yep. I'm also sure the strange grey box in my kitchen is a home made one. A job for a rainy day is to completely bypass all the existing wiring.

If that's an input only can it be taken out. Our alarm isn't monitored anyway.
