Love your metaphor - because wasps don't really 'drop', eh. smile

Always poison the nest in the evening or at night, never during the day. You are asking for a trip to A&E.  Dont set fire to them but as someone mentioned petrol is great, you stick it in a beer bottle up-end it into the entrance cover with a sack and leave it. You may have to poison any young wasps that hatch but they are easy to destroy. When they are raising queen larvae you can poison them with a can of fish with wasp bait in it, as they are feeding them protein. This is why you see wasps catching flies.

I've seen a wasp do that. Flew inside through an open side door, caught a fly mid flight and landed on a dining room chair where it promptly removed the fly's wings and legs.

I was having a pub lunch in the UK a few years back and a wasp came down and stole a prawn that fell from my prawn salad ... always wondered what the other wasps thought when that got pulled into the nest.
