Next time buy a Makita - oh wait - for general/handyman use buy a Maktec.

I know the OP didn't want me to say that - but I will anyway in the case of a plunge router.  Reason - all the metal components on the Maktec plunge router below are Makita parts and labelled as such, identical to the equivalent sized Makita model costing double the price. Motor has an identical spec, but could be different quality. Obvious differences are colour of the case, the moulding/shape of the case, and it comes with a shorter and lighter duty cord and no "trade use" extended warranty.  With other Mactec branded tools, there isn't an equivalent Makita model.
