I will have a garage door soon that is not bolted shut like my current crappy one.

Im hoping the ryobi opener comes out, since it has attachable stuff and can have a battery put on it to open in a power failure. Even tho the garage door only gets opened for me when I have something large to move in or out of the workshop would be nice to be able to do that by button and not manually.

Did you get the relay shield as well? You can also add the temperature shield which might be of use in future. So cheap to get them all.

FYI - I found that DHT shield pretty hopeless - because the ESP chip gets quite warm and the shield sits directly on top, the readings from the sensor were about 2-3 degrees warmer than reality. I reckon you would be better off with a DS18B20 sensor, means you can string a number of them together as well, and only use up one digital pin. YMMV.

Yeah got the relay shield and the light shield - because might setup a pulse counter for the power meter with it if I don't end up needing it for the door opener

2 or more might have been a good idea but free shipping so can easily order another

Guess mine hasn't been powered on for long enough for that to be an issue yet - its mainly humidity that I am interested in so I know when the dehumidifier has stuffed up and filled the tank instead of using the drain hose again.

Yes, but I haven't seen any of these models available in NZ (Chamberlain owns Merlin).

That Ryobi one looks awesome. I really wish Techtronics would bring their whole range of products to NZ. There's quite a bit of Ryobi + AEG stuff available overseas I'd love to have.

On the other hand, probably good for the old bank account.

I see the Wemos relay seems to be rated for mains current. Has this been/does this need certified for use in NZ?

I'm not going anywhere near 10 amps myself, but I assume any electrician I ask to wire in such a product is going to refuse unless they're happy that the the relay is safe. I'm thinking this would be a really cheap way of triggering the garage lights when the door opens. And in the garage at least I can do whatever I want with light switches without seeking WAF.

I wouldn't put mains near a relay on one of those small PCBs . Solid state relays seem to be OK with the sparkies I've dealt with. Not random China counterfeits tho. Then just put it on a gpio pin.

I just used Arduino with Ethershield and relay, just coz I had one sitting around. Uses reed switches to detect open/closed. Feel free to grab the code off my site if you want, or at least use it to get some ideas. http://www.chimera.co.nz/electronics/arduino-garage-door.htm

No idea sorry @Blanch. If it can't connect to WIFI then I guess I would be checking SSID and password settings and ensuring it is well within WIFI range of your AP.

Thanks for the reply, don't I input the SSID and password settings once I have connected to the secure AP that Homie has spawned?
