Maybe a bigger screen will clear this up. I think the central stud is a double with the light and a picture hook centred on the righthand one.

I think functionally the install is OK but aesthetically is a dogs breakfast and somewhat lacks professionalism.

Retro fitting anything into an existing house is always a compromise as a sparky i know how difficult it is to do this. Yes maybe they could have tried harder to get it centered (if it is even possible to do that for the previous reasons.) And the silicon could be much tidier but otherwise i dont think its a bad install.

And the camera (presumably of a mobile phone) has distorted the image a lot, plus the aesthetically unpleasing bit, the elephant in the room is actually the stain of the missing lamp.

I think you're probably satisfied at this point, with the answers you've received, but I am curious about one thing, while it is not centred between the windows, is it centred (wall to wall) in the room? Would this be a factor for placement, or is it opposing a doorway to a hall, so perhaps it would provide some benefit to other parts of the house? From all I can see the only context is the windows.

If I was feeling particularly OCD and it was my house, it might bug me too, but then if there's a reason/purpose for placement...

We don't know if the installer was selected on price or quality. For a cheap install it is fine.

Over time, the constant trickle of water will probably cause moss to grow on that concrete. You can hook up some 15 mm pressure pipe to the grey flexi pipe coming from the inside unit plus one to catch water from the outside unit (it will have a drain hole underneath it).

i think the lack of centering is exagerated by the lack of curtain rail on the left side. You'll get used to it

I've measured it, and it's 32.5cm on one side from the heat pump to the window frame and it's only 28cm on the other side (you can see it on the photos).

That is a relatively small  amount over that length, and  shouldn't really get picked up by the eye unless you are looking for it. I agree with Floydie, and that it is extended by the extended curtain rail.  If you also extend the one on the other side it will even it up. Also if you put in proper curtains, you can easily hide the difference by extending the rails.

I doubt it will be cheap, because when was a plumber or electrician ever cheap?

When its included by the retailer as part of the sale at a fixes price. They tend to pay a fixed price so the installs are done as quickly as possible.

Problem is that for almost every trade there are ways of taking short cuts. Which are hard for the average customer to discover. How long were the pipes held on vacuum for? And is the heat pump on its own 2.5 or 4mm2 circuit? Or was a 1.5mm power point circuit extended?

pbgben:

The question is, how much did the install cost?

$2000 all together (heat pump and install). Is that a bargain or a rip-off?
