Jesus wept - that video was 2 1/2 minutes long. It took him almost as long to fold a fitted sheet as it has taken for me to post an important message about what a waste of time that was.

Well thanks Fred... but I did say that, FYI, that's what "This guy does it really slowly" generally means.

I do it the same way but quickly.

Surely that speed could only come with a gift of dexterity - and the dedication and aptitude to want to learn. I'd rather go to circus school and learn to juggle hedgehogs whilst riding a unicycle, just as useless, but at least it would be fun.

I find that the depth of the mattress that they design some sheets for is far to low. The elastic barely gets to the bottom on my mattress on some of them and it will often ping up. That is more an issue than how far around they have put the elastic.

Yep, that's the point I made re the decent value/quality sheets at KMart - the 33 or 35cm (I think) side drop on the fitted sheets aren't really adequate for modern thick mattresses, so would only work well on the thinner/older type. We bought a new bed a month ago, and when finding new sheets ensured the side drop was a minimum of 37cm.

But I reckon the most important thing is getting all-cotton - the idea of sheets made out of polyester (partially or fully) is just weird to me: who on earth thought microfiber was a suitable material for sheets, yet places like Briscoes are full of this!

60c a load in the dryer when I bothered to meter it. Offer her 60c to hang out and bring in the washing. When you get beaten up for that offer ask why you are expected to do that.

Run them at night on Flick and it's probably more like 30c, at least in Wellington.

I got some pretty good sheets of Aliexpress.

I had the misfortune of buying a bed from Bigsave. Just wanted a single bed for the spare room. Went in, found one that seemed comfortable enough, purchased it and left. Tried to make the bed with some existing sheets. Not even close to fitting. WTF!? Measured the bed, and it turns out its a "Single XL" bed. This is something different to ordinary single and king singles. No, I didn't know that existed either. Didn't say this on any of the marketing material, nor the bed itself, and no-one in store felt the need to mention it.

Try finding Single XL sheets in NZ. Go on, try.

Ended up on Aliexpress which at least sells sheets by measurement (e.g. 100 x 200 cm). Nice sheets, worked out about $50 a set from memory. Seems like a ridiculous exercise though.

There have been some bed retailers selling other sizes. Look at the wikipedia article for bed sizing to see what a massive non standard those names are for things.

Indeed, you just have to get the right drop on the fitted sheets for the height of the mattress. Get this mismatched and you'll have all sorts of trouble. Something to think about when you buy a new mattress too!
